Description

• Consistently operates Sorter at production target speeds.
• Constantly monitors all Sorter bays to make sure boards are dropping correctly into the bays, lowering bays as they become full.
• As needed, assist Millwright/Lead with repairs on their equipment.
• Monitors lumber as it enters and flows through the Sorter to make sure it is sorting by length and dimension.
• Monitors the Trash Bay and reports excessive amount of boards are being dropped into this bay. Trouble shoots to determine problem (i.e. broken bay, tipple not firing, etc.).
• Correctly drops lumber from the bays onto the Haul Out Chains, ensuring that lumber packs are not “split” or damaged.
• Ability to keep lumber flowing through the Sorter so that the Trimmer is not blocked out and the Stacker has a steady flow of product. Ensures downtime is not caused by something within the Operator’s control.
• Quickly and safety clears jams in order to not cause unnecessary downtime.
• Reports excessive amount of or constantly reoccurring (even if minor in nature) issues that are causing downtime.
• Understands the importance of machine guarding (handrails, chains, individual metal guards), inspects work area to make sure all guards are in place while working and stays out of guarded areas unless properly locked out.
• Uses equipment correctly and immediately reports damaged equipment to the Supervisor or Lead Person.
• Wear all required PPE, especially fall protection harness when in the Sorter.
• Follows all company safety rules and policies and keeps assigned area clean (catwalk, sorter cubbies, under sorter haul out chains).

• Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
•  A minimum of six (6) months of work experience in an industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, carpentry, construction, or production environment.
• Willing and able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the job, such as lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a hot humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment, while working rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
• Willing to continuously stand for long periods of time 11-12 hour shifts.
• Punctuality, ability to work alone and as part of a group, good physical condition, safety consciousness, and good problem solving skill is required. 
• Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by supervisor.
• Ability to communicate effectively to other operators/supervisors.
• Ability to perform all tasks in accordance with Hood Industries safety policies and procedures.
