Description

• Responsible for operating one Edger line including:
• Controlling the flow of side boards and/or cut lumber that falls on the Infeed decks, travels on lumber chains over the Unscrambler, under the Scanner and into the Edger machine.
• Manually adjusts board and/or wood placement on the decks and lumber chains as needed.
• Unjam boards/wood as required.
• Makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment as needed. Contacts Maintenance/Supervisor for issues the operator is unable or not trained to manage.
• Does basic preventive maintenance, including changing saws in the saw box.
• If working on Edger 1 line, monitors the Edger Hog to make sure that scrap wood is feeding into it without jamming up. Unjams Hog when necessary.
• If working on Edger 2 line, monitors the Edger Landing deck. Unjam wood on this deck as needed.
• Follows all safety procedures/practices rules, including correctly wearing required job-specific PPE, following all Lockout/Tagout procedures, safe operation of equipment, etc.
• Cleans up work area during the day and at end-of-shift, which includes using an overhead crane to strap up and move oversized boards/cants.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Previous machine operation experience in a production environment preferred but not required.
• Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.
• Position physically requires:
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and grasping.
• Must be able to walk up/down stairs to get to/from work area(s).
• Frequent hand/finger manipulation to use machine operation buttons on joystick like control and/or buttons/knobs on a control panel.
• Periodic bending and/or squatting.
• Frequent lifting, flipping and/or moving boards weighing up to 10 lbs.
• Periodic lifting and/or moving of boards/lumber “cants” weighing up to 50 pounds, which usually requires the operator to slide the board/cant off the lumber chains using a hand-held pike pole.
• Occasional use of overhead crane to move cants, weighing 40 pounds, off the lumber chains. This may require the operator to climb onto and walk across the lumber chains to attach a strap to the cant so that it can be lifted by the overhead crane.
• Working in a hot/cold, dusty/dirty environment. The work area is not temperature-controlled and is dependent on outside atmospheric conditions (winter cold, summer heat, rain, etc.).
