Hood County is Hiring a Custodian/Kennel Attendant Near Granbury, TX

Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

Definition

Under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor, maintains the animal control center; performs a variety of responsible custodial activities to maintain the cleanliness, functioning and appearance of animal control. Maintains shelter areas by cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels, provides general care of the animals, maintains, and organizes storage rooms, and stocks inventory.

Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties—Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Maintain cleanliness of animal control including cleaning the restrooms, mopping floors and cleaning offices.

2. Sanitize toilets: wash and disinfect basins and walls; replenish supplies.

3. Dust furniture in offices; vacuum floors; empty trash containers and dispose of trash.

4. Wipe down doors and door handles and walls; clean and disinfect mirrors; baseboards, water fountains, countertops, and trash receptacles.

5. Transport trash to dumpster as needed.

6. Assist in carrying, lifting, or moving items when required.

7. Maintains shelter areas (inside and outside) by cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels, removes litter and debris, washes feeding utensils, pans, equipment, etc.

8. Provides general care of the animals by watering, feeding, light grooming, walking, rotating to outdoor area, etc.

9. Maintains stock and storage rooms in a neat and organized manner.

10. Stocks inventory of food, litter, cleaning supplies, etc.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Proper usage of cleansers and supplies.

2. Housekeeping principles.

3. Safe work practices.

4. Some knowledge of domestic handling techniques, as well as knowledge of animal behavior.

5. Skill to work with minimal supervision and follow written and verbal instructions.

1. Sweep and mop floors.

2. Proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.

3. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

4. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

5. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

6. Manage animals.

7. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

· Walking or standing for extended periods of time.

· Operating assigned equipment.

· Sweeping and mopping floors.

· Lifting and carrying heavy materials.

· Moving furniture and boxes

8. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

· Making observations.

· Reading and writing.

· Operating assigned equipment.

· Communicating with others.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED.

Must be 18 years of age.

License or Certificate:

Valid Texas Driver License in good standing is required.

Working Conditions

Environmental Conditions:

Indoor and field environment; traveling from site to site; exposure to noise, dirt, dust and foul odors; use of various chemicals and cleaning compounds; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials and confined or high workplaces. This position has been identified with possible risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens and/or other various hazards that require immunization against such exposure. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Physical Conditions:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; lifting and carrying heavy materials; sweeping and mopping floors; moving furniture and boxes; employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
