POSITION TITLE: DOUBLEBACKER OPERATOR

REPORTS TO: Corrugator Supervisor/Leadman

SUMMARY

Responsible for all processes associated with running the Double Backer and assisting in wet-end and dry-end operations, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up bridge guides and glue station in accordance with proper setup techniques.
• Check wet end lineups to verify correct roll stock is received and used.
• Put rolls of paper in mill roll stands ensuring proper size and grade of paper to be run and make splices and paper changes as necessary.
• Adjust during runs for tension, alignment, adhesion, and warp control.
• Trim only the necessary amount of paper from the rolls when preparing for splices.
• Remove roll stock from the machine when necessary and mark the proper size, grade, diameter, and lineal footage on the roll and place core plugs in each end of the buttrolls.
• Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the double-backer at available capacity and speed in line with those of the corrugator.
• Clean starch pans, metering rolls, and glue rolls when necessary.
• Keep the double backer area clean.
• Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervisor for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
• Take all paper off cores of stub rolls.
• Assist the Corrugator Operator as necessary.
• Assist in the wet end training of the Double backer, Single Facer, and Dry End personnel.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. PREFERRED

• Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:
• Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
• 6 months’ experience on the dry end of the corrugator

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into operation.
• Ability to differentiate between paper grades. Preferred
• Product quality specifications
• Intermediate to Advanced ability to utilize computer software such as: Microsoft Outlook, Keyboard, Mouse, and a printer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to hot and/or humid as well as cold

conditions depending on outside weather. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, louder than normal environments, and high paced atmosphere.
