Honor Community Health is Hiring a Dental Hygienist (Full-time, part-time OR on-call) Near Pontiac, MI

Position Description

The Dental Hygienist is an essential member of a high performing dental team providing the Director, Dental Services and dentist support in the care and treatment of adult and pediatric patients. The Dental Hygienist will provide direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services to patients of the dental center. The Dental Hygienist will also be responsible for providing appropriate oral health education to dental patients. In addition, the Dental Hygienist performs intra-oral and panoramic x-rays of patients. Works collaboratively with the team to create and maintain a culture of excellence and dedication to providing compassionate and high quality dental care to residents and the community.

This is a flexible position for either part-time, full-time OR on-call staff member. Our standard hours are Monday- Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in the oral health management of all clinic patients.
  2. Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principals of oral hygiene and periodontal cares.
  3. Records patient-hygiene transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record ensuring the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
  4. Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling to dental center patients.
  5. Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, debridement, sealant and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols.
  6.  Adheres to center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues.
  7. Uses the Integrated model of care, to collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure appropriate and complete health care management of all patients.
  8. Organizes and performs preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations when applicable.
  9. Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the Director, Dental Services or Dentist in accordance with state regulations and laws.
  10. Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with dental clinic directive and center policy as well as state and federal regulations.
  11. Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and organization rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene, as well as those relating to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Graduation from an accredited school of dental hygiene.
  • A minimum of two or more years in a registered dental hygienist position.
  • Strong computer skills and experience working in a dental care environment.
  •  Unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Michigan.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide certification preferred. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center experience preferred, but not required.
