The dental assistant is an integral member of the dental treatment team and assists the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and performs other clinical, dental laboratory and administrative/clerical functions independently of direct supervision. The dental assistant has the technical skills to provide support in general dentistry and all dental specialty disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
  • Perform procedures as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Take dental radiographs (x-rays) and save to patient charts.
  • Prepare patient for examination and treatment.
  • Prepare tray set-ups for dental procedures.
  • Set up and breakdown operatory post treatment.
  • Document patient information, treatment plans, and procedures in patient chart.
  • Pour, trim and polish impression casts.
  • Fabricate temporary crowns and bridges
  • Fabricate custom impression trays.
  • Mix amalgam, cement, pulp paste and prepare impression materials.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following all dental treatment procedures.
  • Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
  • Deliver quality and compassionate care to every patient.
  • Guide parents and patients through the process before treatment.
  • Educate patients in oral hygiene instruction and provide postoperative instructions.
  • Participate in local community affairs and events including school screenings, presentations, events, and any opportunity to promote a positive image of Hometown Dental.
  • Perform various office tasks as necessary.
  • Coordinate calling for unscheduled treatment plans and pre-estimates.
  • Assist with monthly inventory counts.
  • Assist with other duties as needed.

KNOWLEDGE /SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • EDDA certified or a minimum of 2 year of experience
  • Coronal polishing certificate preferred
  • X-Ray license
  • CPR certified and/or training
  • Amazing customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience with Dentrix preferred
