Homestart is Hiring a Homelessness Prevention Program Advocate Near Boston, MA

Job Responsibilities:

· Assist clients who are facing eviction to preserve their tenancies by working with them to develop an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and advocating on their behalf

· Communicate and mediate with property managers, attorneys, medical providers, and others to facilitate housing retention.

· Assist clients with completing applications for rental assistance

· Accompany clients to housing court hearings in person as needed

· Link clients with outside resources for ongoing stabilization support.

· Assist clients with budgeting and money management

· Assign tasks to clients as appropriate, with the aim of strengthening self-sufficiency. Monitor progress and provide needed support.

· Cultivate knowledge of area resources and participate in collaborations with other agencies.

· Participate in staff activities, such as monthly meetings and other activities as scheduled.

· Complete required data entry in a timely fashion. Maintain client files as proscribed and case notes that log all necessary client information.

Required Skills:

· Two years of experience providing case management and/or housing stabilization to homeless, at-risk or otherwise vulnerable populations; working knowledge of landlord-tenant issues preferred.

· Patient, respectful demeanor toward people in crisis; dedication to helping vulnerable individuals stabilize their housing and increase their self-sufficiency.

· Ability to work with and set appropriate boundaries with clients who are from diverse backgrounds and who have multiple personal challenges, such as mental health, substance abuse and domestic violence.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Experienced with computerized databases, preferably HUD Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

· Bilingual language capacity strongly preferred.

***A note with regard to work location and schedule: HomeStart employees are able to work a hybrid schedule, with time spent in the office, in the field or working remotely. The amount of time you are able to work remotely will depend on a number of factors, including the needs of your position, scheduled time spent working in the field and on-going job performance.

Employees working remotely:

· Should be available during regularly scheduled hours (which are determined in conjunction with your supervisor)

· Have access to the internet and technology for work such as phone calls, checking emails, etc. If you do not have access to such technology, we can discuss options such as HomeStart obtaining an agency laptop and phone line.

· Should be responsive to phone and email during their regularly scheduled work hours.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,500.00 - $44,500.00 per year
