ACCOUNTING CLERK

We are excited to invite a passionate Accounting Clerk to join our team! Homes for the Homeless, Inc. seeks an Entry-Level Accounting Clerk to join its Finance Department. With primary responsibilities in the Accounts Payable division, the Accounting Clerk is a crucial function in ensuring the fiscal security and internal controls of the organization.

ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for processing weekly invoice payments.
  • Responsible for communicating with vendors regarding invoices & missing payments.
  • Maintain accurate vendor check list & organize invoices into our accounting software.
  • Prepare journal entries & reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare monthly employee fringe benefits reconciliation reports.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card expenses.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Assist in petty cash audit for each of our facilities.
  • Maintain monthly rental income schedules.
  • Assist with month-end & year-end closing process.
  • Assist the Purchasing team with backup documentation as needed.
  • Assist with the quarterly inventory count as needed.
  • Assist in all Audit processes.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, or associate degree with accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct Accounting Software preferred, but not required.
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets.
  • Competency in MS Office applications.
  • Effective communication and works well with others.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
