    Lakeview School District is located on the south side of Battle Creek, an economically and culturally diverse community of 53,000 located in south-central lower Michigan. The Lakeview School District is a highly respected, dynamic public school system, which seeks implantation of meaningful change with the goal of responsibly restructuring the District's educational programs.

    Lakeview School District is a comprehensive school of approximately 4,000 students in grades K-12 with 500 faculty and support staff members with an annual General Fund Budget of $50 million. The District is comprised of six school buildings, four K-4 elementary buildings, one 5-8 middle school building, and one high school.
    SUMMARY
    The Library/Media Center Specialist works as the Library Specialist for Lakeview School District. The position will spend the majority of time between Lakeview High School and Lakeview Middle School, once the middle school media center construction is completed (Spring, 2024). This includes oversight and/or support of library support personnel across the district.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate with Library Media (ND) endorsement is required, K-12 certification preferred.
    • Master’s Degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a Master’s level program in Library and Information Studies preferred.
    • Follett experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of Secondary Disciplinary Literacy Instructional Practices preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, professional journals.
    • Skilled in the use of library software and data entry.
    • Ability to work effectively and positively with staff, students and the general public.
    • Ability to assume responsibility and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage library tasks for two buildings efficiently.
    • Regular and dependable attendance is critical to job performance.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Establish processes and procedures for selection, circulation and resource sharing to assure appropriate media and text resources for students and staff.
    • Prepare and administer the district library program budget to support program goals
    • Collaborates with District Literacy Coordinator to plan and implement Library/Media Center programming in support of literacy education in the district
    • Supervise support staff, which may include educational assistants and volunteers
    • Champions equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical space and beyond, including providing 24/7 access to the online library catalog; digital and audio books; and various information resources
    • Fosters exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset
    • Supports learners’ success by guiding them to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasure.
    • Teaches all members of the learning community to engage with and use information in a global society
    • Supports the district’s mission, strategic plan, and policies through media center operation and promotion of information literacy
    • Partners with teachers to integrate elements of information literacy, creativity, innovation and the active use of library materials into curricula.
    • Manages the staff, budget, and the physical and virtual spaces of the school libraries
    • Evaluates, introduces, and models emerging technologies for the learning community and uses technology tools to supplement school resources
    • Participates as an active leader of the local learning community, building and maintaining relationships with external organizations and stakeholders
    • Collaborate with internal school and external public groups
    • Process applicable records for the collection of fines and fees originating from the library
    • Teaches information literacy skills to build proficiency for student-driven research
    • Knowledge of various literacy explorations – foundational, digital, media, news and computational

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
