Homebase Medical is Hiring a Remote Medical Billing Support Specialist (Mostly remote) - Temporary

We offer an array of medical and chronic care services and we’re backed by SCAN, a not-for-profit organization that has a history of supporting and improving the health and independence of older adults for over 45 years.

The Medical Billing Support Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate verification of medical insurance benefits prior visits, payment posting, follow up on unpaid primary and secondary claims, claim denials, underpaid and overpaid claims and collections in accordance with established guidelines. In this role, the Billing Support Specialist works the current aging report and bills encounter data to the responsible party. Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment and must demonstrate problem solving skills.

This role is mostly remote with some onsite work required at our Long Beach headquarters 1x/week or 1x/every other week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Navigate insurance websites for claims status, EOBs, and eligibility.
  • Verify insurance coverage with medical insurances and obtain pre-authorization for service request.
  • Ability to understand and advise patients of their financial responsibility (co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, etc.)
  • Respond to total patient accounts outstanding A/R including credits and denials to reduce A/R aging numbers.
  • Create notes on patient or client accounts for auditing and actions taken per the department operating procedures.
  • Research and understand different payer practices and reimbursement history to improve ability to successfully over­turn claims denials.
  • Maintain effective workflow and complete of insurance verification process.
  • In collaboration with other teams to correct errors, communicate with team members about payer policy updates and improve workflow processes and ensure overall billing integrity.
  • Effectively communicate billing and collection trends to leadership in order to escalate large payer claim issues and follow through on resolution
  • Post payments to the system associated with patient and insurance carrier’s remittance.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, billing and / or collections internal procedures and external regulations.
  • Meet or exceed the departments production and quality goals for cash collections, reduction in A/R aging ad overall risk for bad debt write-offs.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines and maintain high level of confidentiality at all times when dealing with patient information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Medical billing certificate, preferred.
  • A comparable combination of education/experience and/or training will be considered equivalent to the education listed above.

  • 5 years of experience in Medical Billing
  • Efficient organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of quickly adapting to new responsibilities and meeting new expectations in a rapidly growing company and industry.
  • Ability to work independently with systematic troubleshooting techniques, judgment and problem-solving skills.
