Home of the Innocents is Hiring a [Charge Nurse] Clinical Nurse Supervisor - RN Near Louisville, KY

Job Purpose
The general purpose of your job is to keep children who are clients of HOTI safe at all times and to be respectful of the children and their families as valued customers.
The primary role of the RN Clinical Supervisor is to oversee the daily operations of the Nursing Department at the direction of the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Vice President of Clinical Services and attending physician(s) in collaboration with other department disciplines to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The RN Clinical Supervisor supervises nursing activities carried out by skilled staff nurses and certified nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the RN Clinical Supervisor is responsible to see that the policies and procedures established by Home of the Innocents are followed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continually provide direct supervision of nursing services in accordance with federal, state, local and facility standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Continually promote the mission and values of the organization.
  • Communicate and enforce facility procedures and desktop instructions at all times.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily nursing care provided by licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants making shift assignments based on acuity to meet daily care objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians at all times to maintain optimal health and quality of life for each resident based on evidenced based practice.
  • Ensure resident documentation is appropriate, accurate, descriptive, timely and reflective of each resident’s response to care throughout the shift.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines as needed to facilitate daily resident care.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and readiness at all times making every effort to participate in annual surveys and complaint investigations as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the campus in the absence of administrative staff.
  • Participate in resident care planning by completing assigned documentation, attending Care Plan meetings, and facilitating carry over to direct care staff as assigned.
  • Monitor nursing service personnel at all times for compliance with infection control practices, precautions and safety procedures, including enforcement of the lifting policy.
  • Immediately respond to complaints, concerns and reports of suspected abuse, neglect, mistreatment or misappropriation per facility procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide support and supervision of nursing department team members, evaluating daily job performance consistently and throughout each shift.
  • Act as a resource as well as provide support and timely feedback to nursing staff on job performance as needed. Report all significant findings, incidents or concerns to administrative team member(s).
  • Assist Payroll / Staffing Coordinator in collaboration with Director of Nursing to meet staffing needs daily and throughout the shift.
  • Identify and communicate education and training needs to the Training Department when warranted.
  • Perform weekly administrative and personnel duties, including but not limited to completing performance evaluations and disciplinary actions timely, processing unusual occurrences, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Facilitate and participate in ongoing staff education including competency validations.
  • Maintain professional licensure and keep abreast of changes in the field of Nursing, Pediatrics, long term care and facility specific laboratory requirements by participating in internal and external educational opportunities and maintaining continuing education requirements.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled monthly DON Meetings, monthly department meetings, and other mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
  • Assist to develop, implement and oversee nursing department financial objectives collaboratively with departmental leadership to meet fiscal targets.
Qualifications
  • Unencumbered and current Commonwealth of Kentucky Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Associates Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct resident care in a hospital or long term care facility as a registered nurse with supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Current CPR / Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification is required.
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of nursing standards of practice and willingness to impart such knowledge to maintain the highest quality degree of care delivery.
  • Must possess and be willing to use clinical, supervisory, and communication skills to achieve and maintain the highest practicable level of care delivery.
  • Must function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity and compassion to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and in various states of crises.
Working Conditions
Position requirements may be mentally and emotionally demanding and involve frequent interruptions, extended work hours beyond scheduled hours including weekends and holidays, and working with ill, disabled, or physically challenging residents and their families often in a state of crises. Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious disease, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals is possible
Physical Requirements
Requirements of this position may be physically demanding and include frequent movement throughout the day, standing or walking for extended periods with few breaks, response to facility-wide and resident specific emergency situations including cardiorespiratory arrests, and evaluating the skills of licensed staff in the care environment. Must be able to push, pull, move and / or lift a minimum of 35 lbs up to 65 lbs unassisted, from the floor using proper body mechanics. Position often requires reaching, bending, stooping and handling residents and objects with hands and fingers using precise fine motor skills.
