GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Laundry Supervisor performs assigned duties related to the processing, handling, and mending of linen and laundry as required for The Holiday in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards. All related duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Previous related experience preferred
  • Ability to operate required equipment
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must speak and understand English
  • Positive attitude towards the elderly


KEY-COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to keep resident’s/patient’s matters strictly confidential and exercise courtesy and cooperation towards residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and other staff members
  • Care displayed in completing assignments
  • Ability to satisfactorily maintain a high standard of service and cleanliness.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision
  • Maintains the standards of the department and upholds and abides by the region’s policies and procedures

MAIN JOB TASKS:

  • Keeps an accurate daily record of weight of all clothing/laundry washed and other records as required
  • Ensures sufficient supplies of clean linens are available in the proper storage areas
  • Transports soiled linen/ laundry from various areas to the main soiled laundry holding area or laundry room
  • Washes, dries, folds and transports linen/ clothing according to procedures
  • Selects damaged clothing/linen to send to Activities Dept. for repair
  • Sorts, removes, and records damaged linen from service
  • Labels linen/ clothing as required
  • Maintains an adequate supply of washing chemicals and other related
  • supplies as required
  • Receives and records all new linen as required
  • Ability to use and maintain Laundry equipment, ensuring safe practice
  • Communicates equipment and supply needs and reports safety hazards
  • Cleans and maintains laundry area and laundry equipment
  • As a Team Member, takes an active role in the harmonious functioning of the department and the facility
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement program.
  • Attends pertinent meetings/ in-services
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Workplace Materials Safety Data System
  • Performs housekeeping duties when requested
  • Performs any other duties as are necessary and/or assigned


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This position must provide a supply of clean, disinfected linens for use in the individual rooms always. They are to keep residents’ clothing clean and washed in a manner, which will preserve color and fabric, and avoid

Contamination and spreading of bacteria. They will also keep linens and clothing washed, dried, ironed, folded, and stored in designate areas daily, as well as to keep laundry area and equipment clean.

The laundry person may be required to perform tasks, which involve exposure to visible blood contamination or reasonably anticipated blood contamination. He/she must be knowledgeable about OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen Standard and The Holiday’s Exposure Control Plan for Blood-borne Pathogens and must follow the required procedure for handling, cleaning, disposing, or moving of objects/materials and the clean-up of blood, infectious materials, or body fluids containing blood. This position must also be able to read and understand the English language.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

This position demands good physical and mental health. The Laundry personnel will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull and work a flexible schedule. The Laundry personnel must be able to move continuously during work hours. Must be able to lift and/or carry 50 to 75 pounds.

  • Stands, walks and climbs – must be capable of climbing and using a stepladder as required. Turns, stoops, crouches, reaches and lifts
  • Pushes, pulls carts, buckets, mops, brooms, and cleaning equipment
  • Transports linen carts
  • Ironing and sewing as required
  • Must be able to tolerate heat
  • May be required to handle heavy loads with or without assistance
  • Must comply with Blood-borne Pathogen Exposure Control Policy when applicable
  • Must work in hot and damp environment
  • Must work with various cleaning chemicals and solutions and comply with EPA and OSHA regulations and other safety policies of The Holiday
  • Must be qualified to operate various kinds and types of laundry equipment safely and properly
  • Must take full responsibility of laundry service
  • Must keep separate linen carts for transporting of soiled and clean linens
  • Must keep contaminated linens that have been removed from beds of patients who have a possible infectious condition in separate double bags, plainly marked. These items will be laundered and disinfected separately
  • Will use germicidal agents and bleaching agents on all linens
  • Will not wash residents’ clothes in strong bleach
  • Will keep equipment and laundry area clean
  • Will report repairs and equipment problems immediately to your supervisor
  • Will report needed supplies to supervisor, before running out.
  • Will follow all clean linen procedures including drying, folding, and storing all laundry in linen closets and designated areas by designated people.
  • Courtesy and tact in dealing with residents/patients/ staff and visit
  • Ability to adapt to last minute changes
  • Training, in-service educational activities, and staff meetings, participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned
