**Summary:** The Plumbing Apprentice is responsible for assisting in installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

**Responsibilities/Essential Duties:** (the responsibilities and duties listed below will be done under the supervision of an experienced plumber)

* Review building plans and specifications to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials

* Identify required tools and special equipment; select the type and size of pipe required

* Locate and mark positions for connections and fixtures

* Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment

* Assemble and install valves and fittings; test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks

* Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment, piping and controls, underground storm sanitary and water piping systems, sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters, conditioners, plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim

* Perform scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures

* Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met

* Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported, graded, and meet the requirements of the appropriate codes

* Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements

* Communicate with customers in a clear, confident manner throughout the entire service so that they are aware of what is going on inside their home/business

* Ability to both teach and learn by sharing thoughts/experiences with your coworkers in meetings and in one to one interactions

* Willingness to try new ideas and recommend process improvements to your manager with the objective of improving efficiency/effectiveness

* Frequent communication with dispatchers so that they know the status of each job for scheduling purposes

* Work safely and help ensure that those you work with are working in a safe manner

**Qualifications:**

* Some experience in the plumbing field preferred - interest in growing in residential plumbing required

* Education from an accredited post-secondary institution preferred

* Extraordinary customer service skills

* Leadership qualities

* Strong work ethic

* Willingness to learn and grow

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

**Requirements:**

To adequately perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly and routinely required to sit; stand, walk, stoop, use hands to finger, handle controls; hear, and talk. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to climb ladders, work in hot and cold environments, and work in small crawl spaces. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 80lbs and up. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment can vary depending on the season and scope of work - employees are required to work outdoors throughout the seasons. The work environment will subject employees to continual interruptions and changing priorities. Effective, consistent, and constant communication with customers, vendors, co-workers, and others is required.
