Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate HAP’s homelessness prevention program, including and not limited to case management, grant reporting and budgets.
  • Provide homeless prevention case management to clients through financial and housing assistance and guidance.
  • Develop strategies for addressing homelessness prevention objectives.
  • Interact with clients and partners in a professional, nonjudgemental and positive manner.
  • Advocate to legal aid/attorneys, benefit providers, and other resources on behalf of clients.
  • Develop strong relationships with community landlords and property managers.
  • Ensuring client files are complete, accurate and compliant, including obtaining appropriate information releases, file documentation, proper database entry, and related correspondence.
  • Achieve all required evaluation and reporting deadlines for all funding sources.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all program activities.
  • Use evaluation data to improve program quality and effectiveness as part of a continuous quality improvement effort.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and clients.
  • Participate in staff and funder meetings and trainings.
  • Coordinate and attend community outreach events.
  • Other duties as assigned to accomplish program goals, outcomes and to support the agency’s mission.

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree or higher strongly preferred.
  • Homelessness prevention and/or housing experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience overseeing projects, including program budgets, assessment and reporting.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone and keyboard. 
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for sustained periods of time in an indoor setting
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels (i.e. shared open office space with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Must have the ability to move about the office to access files and office equipment.
  • Frequent moving of boxes and files weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Requires occasional bending, kneeling, balancing and reaching.
  • Ability to focus on data, analyze the information and draw conclusions.
  • Frequent interactions with coworkers, participants and partners requiring ability to communicate effectively.
  • Frequent communication in writing and via email requiring ability to fluently read and write in English.
  • Occasional preparation and analysis of figures.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to speak Hmong and/or Karen required. 
  • Ability to speak fluently in the following additional languages Karenni, Burmese, and/or Thai is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of the Hmong, Karen and/or Karenni culture, language, and traditions required.
  • Desire to support community members to maintain housing stability.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Office 365 and Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point, Teams.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize urgent and immediate tasks appropriately.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and confidentiality standards and protocols. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, and racial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently. 
  • Ability to discern situations and adapt. 
  • Position requires flexible scheduling, including occasional weekends, late evening events and travel within the 7-County metropolitan area surrounding Minneapolis and St. Paul.
  • Must have a reliable car, a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and the willingness to use personal vehicle for work related travel.
