Primary Function:
KOH: Remove all traces of ceramic and precoat from castings using potassium hydroxide solution.
DISA GOFF: Clean castings using aluminum oxide abrasives.
ROUGH GRIND: Grind gates down to required dimensions to prepare for final grinding.
Tools and Equipment:
KOH: Large KOH tank, small KOH tank, rinse tank, dryer, transfer pumps, portable pneumatic hammer, baskets.
DISA GOFF: Holding fixtures, storage carts, totes. ROUGH GRIND: Bader Grinders GMP grinder, Micrometers, Calipers.
Materials:
KOH: Potassium hydroxide, full helmet with shield, safety glasses, acid resistant rubber gloves, ear plugs, apron.
DISA GOFF: Safety glasses, ear plugs, aluminum oxide abrasives.
ROUGH GRIND: Safety glasses, ear plugs, knee pads.

Working Procedure:
The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
KOH
  • Work from routing operation instruction sheets.
  • Load part into basket
  • Log basket ID and batch number on KOH log.
  • Load baskets into appropriate tank.
  • Operate transfer pump.
  • Maintain batch integrity, count all pieces
  • Move parts to next operation.
  • Perform normality test.
  • Clean tank on a schedule basis.
  • Mark all barrels of hazardous waste with proper labeling.
  • Transport Hazardous waste to waste water treatment.
  • Cross train in other jobs within the department.
DISA GOFF:
  • Work from routing operation instruction sheets.
  • At the beginning of each shift the Operator checks the level of abrasive media in the hopper on the back of the machine. If abrasive level is low, add one bag of abrasive to the hopper at the rear of the machine. Fill out the log sheet posted above the hopper.
  • Load appropriate abrasive media per instructions. Use G-30 Grittal abrasive in 25 Kg. bags unless otherwise instructed. If the blue “Low Abrasive” light on the control panel comes on continuously for1 minute or more, the system needs to have abrasive added. If the ammeter for the blast wheel fluctuates rapidly, there is a problem with the way the abrasive media is flowing.
  • Start the dust collector from the separate control panel. Press “Abrasive Reclaim Start” button. Press “Spinner Start” button. Press “Blast Wheels Start” button. Select “Chamber On”.
  • Read the part specific instructions to determine the fixture required. Load parts into top and/or lower storage trays as appropriate.
  • Log the date, Operator Number and number of bags on DISA GOFF log.
  • Set the cycle timer to the time listed on the part specific instructions.
  • Press “chamber Index” button to start the cleaning cycle. Select “Abrasive On”.
  • While the machine cycle is running, a second fixture can be loaded.
ROUGH GRIND
  • Work from route and operation instruction sheets.
  • Remove and grind metal parts per instruction sheets.
  • Set-up required grinding as stated and hold gate per route instructions by using appropriate machine.
  • Replace grinding belts as necessary.
  • Help in the design of new fixtures.
  • Grind a wide variety of samples and production parts using various grinding machines.
  • Establish equipment and fixture setup to assure visual and dimensional product quality.
  • Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment
  • Inform your supervisor about problems that occur
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required. Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance.
Special Skills and/or Experience:
  • Required to maintain training certification in HAZMAT and HAZWOPER.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of KOH waste treatment and disposal procedures.
  • Must be currently performing all functions of the Pre-Finish Operator B for a period of no less than 6 months.
  • Reading and writing on the high school level.
  • Forklift license.
  • Vision requirement of 20/30 near correctable.
  • Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

  • High School Diploma or GED
