Job Type: Permanent Build a brilliant future with Hiscox The Role: Reporting into the US Head of Claims, the VP, Property & Casualty Claims is a key leadership role that has overall accountability over our property and casualty teams. You’ll play a key part in the development, implementation and execution of claims strategies to deliver excellent customer service while ensuring optimal loss cost and expense management in support of overall business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a foundation of multi-line claims expertise to be capable of monitoring claim developments and trends within the Property/Casualty insurance industry, focusing on closure rates, average claim cost, and effective litigation management. In addition to the technical subject matter expertise, you'll also lead a team of claims managers and professionals and continue to foster a culture of collaboration to encourage engagement and innovative solutions. Responsibilities: Lead, motivate and develop multi-location and multi-discipline teams of claims leaders and professionals to ensure delivery of an exceptional claims experience for our customers Develop, implement and execute long term, strategic business initiatives to deliver sustainable, cost effective, and innovative claims results, claims litigation strategy and a consistent, high value customer experience Continuous improvement of technical claims handling across all products, focusing on overall claims consistency, thought leadership, best practices, lessons learned and technical trainings Ensures delivery of key performance indicators; deliver and monitor adherence to Best Practices across the handling of property, casualty and litigation claims Identify and solution for cross-functional dependencies and impediments to achieving outcomes Lead and deliver risk, indemnity, legal, quality assurance and service outcomes that directly impact Hiscox customers, brokers, and shareholders, including impacts on brand and reputation Lead the reserving process for the US claims book; oversee the assessment of portfolio risk and exposure from specific key claims and ensure accuracy and adequacy of incurred reserves; prepare and provide reserve analysis and claims trends as needed Active partnership with internal stakeholders (Senior Claims Leadership, Underwriting, Actuarial, Reserving) on claims, litigation development, coverage trends, reserve movements and loss mitigation efforts; Galvanize employee engagement by exhibiting passion about the company, values, and our customers Effectively manage issues arising from internal reviews and audits or external bodies such as state regulators and external auditors Manage team performance; implement strategies and plans to address development; identify and address training needs on an ongoing basis Attract, coach and develop talent. Provide frequent and specific constructive feedback to staff including technical advice, direction and mentoring to Claims staff, and future succession across all levels the team. The Team: The US Claims team at Hiscox is a growing group of professionals working together to provide superior customer service and claims handling expertise. The claims staff are empowered to manage their claims within given authority to provide fair and fast resolution of claims for our insured and broker partners. With strong growth across the US business, the Claims team is focused on delivering profitability while reinforcing Hiscox’s strong brand built on a long history of outstanding claims handling. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school preferred 15 years of claims handling, multi-state litigation and claims management experience. 10 years insurance carrier experience with expertise in Commercial Property & Casualty lines Ability to translate and succinctly communicate strategic thinking into tangible plans and delivery to effectively meet business objectives Strong operational and innovative skillset, including both business process and systems, combined with a visible passion for the customer Exceptional people management and leadership experience; experience attracting and developing talent; ability to coach, develop, set expectations, evaluate and hold people accountable for performance.
