Position Summary:
The Climate Jobs IL Clean Energy Industry Representative liaises with demand-side industries to identify and track current and upcoming employment and development opportunities. The Clean Energy Industry Representative shares employer and industry interests, emphasizing developer partnerships with contractors and workforce development partners. These partnerships will translate opportunities in terms to which case management and programming can respond, and upon which candidates can make informed career decisions in the clean energy sector.
This position will report to Climate Jobs Illinois - which is independent of energy developers and utilities - is a coalition of labor organizations advocating for pro-worker, pro-climate agenda in Illinois - CJI is a partner of HIRE360 advocating for a clear energy workforce across the state of Illinois.
Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):
  • Researching, identifying and analyzing clean energy industry trends, new and emerging clean energy projects and initiatives that will lead to employment opportunities
  • Outreach and recruitment of clean energy partner organizations and developers to provide employment and apprenticeship opportunities for candidates
  • Documenting specific requirements of current and upcoming apprenticeship and employment opportunities
  • Building relationships with clean energy developers and labor representatives, contractors, and subcontractors in order to support projects moving forward in Illinois.
  • Identifying potential development opportunities for qualified apprenticeship candidates
  • Sharing knowledge and industry contacts to inform candidate outreach and recruitment
  • Informing development and implementation of apprenticeship preparation, tutoring services, curriculum development, industry certifications, testing, and other programming as necessary
  • Ensuring currency and accuracy of industry, labor and employer data
  • Participating/leading presentations to selected audiences as appropriate
  • Reporting on various aspects of training opportunities, placements and tenure
  • Tracking employer outreach, open job orders and placements in database
  • Attend Networking events statewide to help support development of clean energy projects
  • Partner with elected officials to advocate for statewide clean energy developments
  • Coordinate and assist with various Job Fairs internally and externally
  • Coordinate and assist with fundraising
Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities):
  • Excellent computer skills and be able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks. The most qualified individual will ensure projects get to completion
  • Very strong communication skills, including greeting and directing clients and guests in a professional and consistent manner and understanding and communicating programs, enrollment and eligibility processes
  • Communicate with employers, partner agencies and organizations, recruiters and case managers to provide eligible candidates with a clear understanding of goals and requirements of employment opportunities
  • Collaborate with Climate Jobs IL, HIRE360 staff ,and Climate Works Pre-Apprenticeship program organizations to conduct effective outreach, orientation and recruitment sessions and provide quality customer service to all participants
  • Other duties as appropriate
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workforce development and/or knowledge of implementing programs and training, and/or minimum of one to three years of relevant experience in a related field such as the building and construction trades, apprenticeships, training programs, or working with contractors.
  • Minimum of High School diploma, post-secondary education is preferred.
  • General case management experience and the ability to effectively work with a diverse population is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new systems.
  • Demonstrate, through experience and/or education, the ability to coordinate complex service delivery systems, and ability to connect to industry relationships.
  • Must have project management experience, utilizing planning and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies.
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
  • Prior workforce development experience, and bilingual (Spanish/English) are preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Talking in-person/on the phone consistently
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • Monday – Friday. 9 am – 5 pm
  • Frequent overtime and weekends.
