Job Description

The Plant Maintenance Supervisor’s primary responsibilities include the facility maintenance and operations, code compliance, planning, design and construction, and facilities finance management. Reporting to the Regional Director of Facilities, the Plant Operations Supervisor provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of our busy hospital campus.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all HVAC, refrigeration, steam and hot water, medical gas, electrical distribution, emergency power, fire protection, plumbing, elevators and central transportation, and groundskeeping.
  • Provides daily work assignments to the department staff, tracks and organizes the Plant Maintenance team to ensure productivity. 
  • Continuously reviews Plant Maintenance tickets in work order system, builds and maintains a processes and system to close tickets in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for developing (where necessary), measuring, monitoring, analyzing/evaluating, and improving all facilities related preventive maintenance programs, and environment of care programs. This includes but is not limited to life safety, utility management, building management, etc., and for coordinating corrective action plans pertaining to any deficiencies.
  • Participates as a standing member of the Environment of Care and Infection Control Committees, and all other committees as assigned. Responsible for the development and implementation of all policies and procedures as requested.
  • Assists with the evaluation, coordination and completion of assigned Capital Improvement Projects. Confirms all spatial and utility requirements are met prior to purchasing.
  • Assists with all major renovations that are not capital improvement projects. These duties will include acquiring cost estimates for the project, including design, construction, and permitting costs as applicable.
  • Establishes, coordinates, reviews, submits, and monitors Plant Maintenance budget(s). Processes payments and invoices related to department activities in a timely manner.
  • Maintains ordering for department supplies and goods; ensures the plant is clean, organized, and maintained to manage Hilo Medical Center equipment, tools, and supplies.

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university strongly preferred. Excess work experience as described below in the experience section or any other responsible administrative or professional work experience which provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those acquired in four years of successful study while completing a university or college curriculum may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

EXPERIENCE:
Specialized Experience:  Four (4) years of specialized experience which included experience in one or a combination of the following types of work:

  1. Experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, or utilities which required the preparation and/or interpretation of plans, drawings and specifications and the proper observance of safety measures, which demonstrated an intimate knowledge of practices, methods, techniques, material, cost equipment and tools used in construction and maintenance projects;
  2. Professional, technical, administrative, investigative or other responsible work experience which required the ability to deal effectively with fellow workers, business contracts and/or general public;
  3. Dealing with procurement protocols as set forth by the State of Hawaii‘s Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) referencing construction, equipment purchases, leases; or equivalent work with the State and Federal regulations.

Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years of experience which included planning and directing the work of others; assigning and reviewing their work, advising them on difficult problem areas; timing and scheduling their work; and providing training. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Healthcare supervisory experience preferred.

CERTIFICATION: Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) certification strongly preferred

LICENSURE: A valid State of Hawaii driver’s license, Type 3 is preferred.

Medical Examination Requirement

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
