Hilltop Ski Area is Hiring a Ski Patroller Near Anchorage, AK

Position Summary

The Ski Patroller is responsible for patrolling ski trails and slope areas to provide assistance and protection to skiers/snowboarders in accordance with policies and safety procedures outlined in Ski Patrol training manual. Provide medical attention when necessary and contacts the necessary organizations to assist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Rescues injured guests and renders first aid or transports to aid room for further treatment with toboggan. Documenting history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to staff, as appropriate; documenting lab procedures and ensuring follow up on results
  • Contacts medical personnel in case of serious injury where additional treatment is needed. Ensures that hill is clear, safe, and ready to open prior to public being on Hilltop Ski Area. Ensures that no public remain on slopes or trails at end of day or during inclement weather. Keeps and maintains records of any incidents on the hill.
  • Marks unsafe areas, opens and closes areas depending on snow, snow making, grooming operations and events.
  • Enforces the skier responsibility code.
  • Give warnings and instigate removal of customers not following rules, without proper lift tickets.
  • Observes ski lifts such as rope tows, T-Bar, J-Bar, and chairlifts to report safety hazards and evidence of damage or wear.
  • Reports immediately to the Director of Mountain Operations, all serious incidents that occur at our facility. Anytime an ambulance is called, the Director of Mountain Operations must be notified.
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required
  • Must have current, OEC, WEC, EMT 1 or greater certifications.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must be available afternoons and evenings M-F, all day weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to ski/snowboard at a level to safely complete job requirements.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to critically think
  • Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use a snowmobile, ATV, patient toboggan.
  • Professional weather appropriate appearance at all times.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to some hazards such as radiation, bodily fluids that may contain disease, and fumes from laboratory chemicals.
