GENERAL DUTIES:
The English Learner (EL)/Migrant Education Program (MEP) Specialist promotes and develops successful program services including English Language Development (ELD), Spanish literacy, supplemental Migrant Education tutorial services for English Learners and migrant students, and Dual Language Program support and performs related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The specialist also maintains a collaborative relationship with staff, students, and families.
The EL/MEP Specialist delivers appropriate instruction for ELs and ensures access to general education content via sheltered instruction supports, manages a monthly caseload, maintains regular communication with ELs and migrant students, their families and appropriate staff members, and is responsible for language proficiency testing as required by District, state, and federal guidelines. The EL/MEP Specialist develops lessons and schedules for paraprofessionals and measures student progress.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position
Hold an ESOL Endorsement
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
The ability to follow oral and written instructions
The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
The ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with others
Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
Duties may include bilingual program support
Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
Bilingual English/Spanish Required (bilingual is defined as fluency in reading, writing and speaking two languages as determined by District screening tool)-Add if requested
