Job Description
Hill International is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
This is an exciting new, multi-year project that will design and analyze the next generation radiological shipping container for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory develops advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology for the safety and reliability of our Navy’s submarine and aircraft fleet. Must have or be able to obtain L security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering evaluations in support of the design, analysis, or testing of a new radiological shipping container or shipping container support equipment.
- Responsibilities may include sponsoring test programs, performing elastic and elastic-plastic structural analysis, developing designs and engineering drawings, performing alignment & tolerance studies (fit-up analysis) or developing design specifications.
- Should have experience with mechanical equipment design, structural analysis, or testing.
- May support engineering and business activities of the Reactor Servicing organization, as needed.
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum four year BS degree in engineering
- Must already have or be able to receive L security clearance
- Must be willing to work onsite in West Mifflin, PA. This will be a hybrid schedule.
- Microsoft Office experience
- Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, or Testing Programs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Technical writing skills
- Familiarity with radiological material shipping containers and/or Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs)
- Familiarity with 10CFR71
- Mechanical or thermal testing experience preferred
- Alignment and tolerance studies or fit-up studies experience preferred
- Developing engineering drawings or specifications skills preferred
- Abaqus/Standard, Abaqus/Explicit, or other similar FEA software skills desired
- Familiarity with elastic-Plastic Structural Analysis
- Familiarity with structural and thermal materials expertise
