Hill House is an independent, non-profit community center that serves families living and working in Boston and is dedicated to providing year-round programs, events and outreach activities. The mission of Hill House is to provide programs, services and activities to meet the diverse social, educational, cultural and recreational needs of individuals and families residing in Boston’s downtown neighborhoods. Through quality programs, collaborative partnerships and volunteer support, Hill House seeks to build and foster a strong sense of urban community and improve the quality of life for residents of all ages.

Hill House has truly become the ‘backyard in the city’ for thousands of families. Hill House is one of the most successful community centers in the area and one of the fastest growing. There is an opportunity for an enterprising individual to help shape that growth while respecting and leveraging Hill House’s strong history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in set up, clean up, and organization of activities throughout building rentals, most commonly children’s birthday parties.
  • Facilitates and supervises activities for children of different ages based on the requested themes and party types.
  • Common Party Types May be As Follows:
  • Ninja warrior party
  • Multi-sports party
  • Soccer
  • Cooking
  • Art
  • Explains and demonstrates activities to ensure children are having fun in a safe manner
  • Provide a positive experience to all guests of Hill House as an ambassador of our organization.
  • Clean the party area to be ready for classes or other rentals that may follow.

Skills and Qualities of a Successful Candidate:

  • Strong desire to work with children, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to connect to children of all ages and other staff as part of a team.
  • Strong character including but not limited to a sense of humor, enthusiasm, maturity, fun, and patience.
  • Confidence, patient problem solver and must be able to work and with at times.
  • Previous work experience is not required, but one- or two-years’ experience working with children is a plus.
  • Willingness to work weekends.
  • This person must be a problem solver and be comfortable being the on-site lead for event rentals.
  • Communicates any time sensitive issues to Development and Events Manager

General Requirements

Successful candidates will be 18 or older with a driver's license and will have graduated from high school or obtained GED. Candidates must complete CORI and SORB background check forms as required by the state of Massachusetts. To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to mross@hillhouseboston.org.

This position must have a positive attitude, the ability to multi-task, and have an interest in working with children and families. This position must be energetic and enthusiastic and be willing to learn activities from existing instructors.

While training and management support will be provided, the party host must possess the ability to work autonomously and with limited direction. They must have an ability and willingness to interact with the public, and specifically with families, and must also have the ability to lift boxes, tables and chairs that can weigh 25-30 lbs. Like all Hill House employees, the party host is expected to contribute to a culture based upon respect, teamwork, and collaboration.

Reporting & Other Details

The Birthday Party Host reports to the Development and Events Manager. This is a part-time position requires weekend work. Other responsibilities may be required by the Board of Directors or Executive Director to fulfill the mission and goals of Hill House.

Wage Details

The wage for this part-time position is $20 per hour (commensurate with experience) and does not include benefits. Part-time employees are eligible for Earned Sick Leave per the requirements of the Massachusetts Earned Sick Leave Law (M.G.L. c. 149, sec. 148C
