Hill Country Christian School of Austin is Hiring a Library Assistant (Aide) (50%) Near Austin, TX

Title: Library Assistant

Purpose: The library assistant supports the librarian, staff, and students in the use of Library Media Center (LMC) resources and equipment and performs routine duties related to the operation of the LMC.

Accountability: Reports to the lower school principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have good communication skills and work well with children of all ages.
  • Must be a life-long learner who appreciates books and other media.
  • Exceptional organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly, with excellent attention to detail, delivering a quality work product in the presence of regular interruptions and distractions.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
  • Proficiency in the entire Microsoft Office suite and Google Suite.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in all areas pertaining to the processing and circulation of books.
  • Assists with all new book preparation and processing.
  • Assist with keeping goals and point up to do date for Accelerated Reader.
  • Takes an active role in learning computer systems and applications used in the library.
  • Performs a variety of computer-related tasks.
  • Assists in helping students locate and check out books.
  • Pulls library materials which need to be mended, discarded and/or replaced.
  • Sorts returned materials by type, location, or unit of the library to which it is assigned.
  • Examines returned materials for obvious damage.
  • Assists in recording receipt of payments for lost or damaged materials.
  • Assists the library media specialist with library projects and book fairs.
  • Assists in training volunteers in circulation procedures.
  • Demonstrates reliability, dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management.
  • Attends library-related meetings, workshops and in-service programs.
  • Assists with tracking inventory.
  • Assists in determining necessary supplies needed for the library and purchasing.
  • Assists with opening and closing the library as permitted by schedule.
  • Assists in creation of resource displays, exhibits, and promotional materials.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position the majority of the time.
  • Needs to frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. and occasionally outside the office to other areas of campus.
  • Operates a computer the majority of the time and frequently a copy machine.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information whether in person, via email, or via telephone. Frequently communicates with co-workers and others.
  • Possess physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of the specific faculty assignment. Occasional lifting of 5 to 20 pounds.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various schedules and administrative changes.
  • Ability to work in an open setting with frequent interruptions.
