Parts Department Job Duties

Parts department workers have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include :

  • Maintaining inventory records of parts, including identifying current prices and ordering replacements when necessary
  • Helping customers find the right parts for their vehicles using computerized databases
  • Explaining to customers how to install new parts or repair existing ones
  • Servicing vehicles by performing oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, brake jobs, fluid flushes, and other routine maintenance tasks
  • Processing orders for new parts or equipment from dealerships, manufacturers, or customers
  • Suggesting alternative parts based on price, quality, and availability
  • Ordering new parts from suppliers and maintaining an inventory of parts in stock
