Parts Department Job Duties
Parts department workers have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include :
- Maintaining inventory records of parts, including identifying current prices and ordering replacements when necessary
- Helping customers find the right parts for their vehicles using computerized databases
- Explaining to customers how to install new parts or repair existing ones
- Servicing vehicles by performing oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, brake jobs, fluid flushes, and other routine maintenance tasks
- Processing orders for new parts or equipment from dealerships, manufacturers, or customers
- Suggesting alternative parts based on price, quality, and availability
- Ordering new parts from suppliers and maintaining an inventory of parts in stock
- Identifying defective or worn parts, determining the cause of failure, and developing solutions to prevent recurrence
