Higley Unified School District is Hiring an Assistant Director of Student Services (24/25 SY) Near Gilbert, AZ

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Handles parent complaints effectively and reports outcomes to affected administrative staff.
  • Oversees school safety and security programs. Liaison to School Resource Officers, Police Agency Liaison, and Campus Safety Monitor programming and best practices.
  • Collaborates with maintenance and facilities, IT, finance, and other district departments to maintain a comprehensive safety plan.
  • Serves as a leader and general resource person in matters relating to student discipline, alternative education, and school safety.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of Title IX and relevant state laws.
  • Supports the Title IX Coordinator as needed.
  • Chairs, conducts, and supervises various discipline and attendance hearings; coordinates all hearing panels, ensures due process in all cases.
  • Guides, directs, advises, and participates in serious discipline processes and problems, including student suspension and expulsion cases.
  • Supervises and coordinates the utilization of the Behavioral Specialist based on campus need.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Counseling Services to support student achievement.
  • Travels to various sites to observe safety programs and respond to discipline related matters as needed.
  • Plan and assist with a wide variety district events and activities.
  • Makes active and consistent efforts to maintain or improve the external and internal image of the District, its divisions, and its schools.
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
  • Gathers appropriate data in support of the status of annual objectives and job description elements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Competent decision-maker with excellent leadership skills.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to write and present proposals, make presentations to large groups and be able to give and receive advice and opinions in situations requiring sensitivity and tact and at times under pressure.
  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a career history of visionary leadership and strong evidence of employing or supporting best educational practices in the classroom.
  • The candidate will support and model high expectations of accountability in all responsibilities of this position.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and confidential assignments, organize work, and function independently and effectively under heavy workloads and during peak periods.
  • Previous experience developing and facilitating educational training and outreach, preferably to both students and employees.
  • Awareness, understanding, and ability to stay current of the various laws, regulations, and policies regarding sexual harassment, interpersonal violence, stalking, and other discrimination/harassment concerns relating to protected status.
  • Successful prior experience in assigned responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, coaching, and/or mediation
  • No convictions for felonies or crimes against children.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Valid Administrator Certificate, if applicable.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience; campus administration required.

The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; type/keyboard; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Employee must on occasion lift/move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
