Highlands Ranch Metro and Centennial Water & Sanitation Districts is Hiring a Fleet Supervisor Near Highlands, CO

The Highlands Ranch Metro District is accepting applications for a full-time Fleet Supervisor for the Parks, Recreation and Open Space department. This position provides leadership, planning, and direction in administering the Metro District’s Fleet Maintenance program. The Fleet Supervisor performs a variety of professional, administrative, and technical duties to meet the District’s goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership to team of fleet employees.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled team and individual meetings, providing guidance, direction, recognition, and correction as needed.
  • Delegates responsibility to team.
  • Analyze information and processes, using data to develop more effective and efficient processes.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with section policy.
  • Recommend section budget to Manager.
  • Maintains records, tracks data, submits reports on relevant operating metrics.
  • Recommends long and short-term projects to maintain assets.
  • Recommends improvements and updates to create efficiency in operations and to improve service delivery to meet expectations of highlands ranch community.
  • Manage purchases in compliance with district policy at all levels.
  • Ensure the highest quality service to internal and external customers.
  • Supports staff in meeting safety and quality standards for maintenance of Districts.
  • fleet and equipment, project fabrication, and vehicle and equipment up-fitting.
  • Ensures staff complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment including protective headwear, eye and ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, and breathing apparatus.
  • Schedules and tracks fleet and equipment maintenance needs and special projects.
  • Participates with manager to prepare fleet sections annual budget.
  • Maintains WEX Fleet Fueling Card System including maintenance and distribution of fuel card program and associated reporting.
  • Maintains the On-Site Fuel Storage System including but not limited to safe and timely delivery of fuel, implementation of Spill Prevention Plan in compliance with state requirement, fuel facility maintenance, complete and submit inspection reports per Colorado State Oil Inspection Division requirements.
  • Annually provides inspection reports to the Colorado State Oil Inspection Division.
  • Oversee snow recovery and snow removal equipment maintenance.
  • Proficient and able to maintain records and data tracking using Asset Essentials work order, asset, and inventory management programs.
  • Completes and submits Accident and Incident Records; reviews incidents and implements safe practices.
  • Maintains accurate records of damage and repair costs to the fleet and equipment.
  • Coordinates insurance reporting with District risk management.
  • Maintains Vehicle and Equipment Service Records; oversees design and implementation of preventive maintenance program.
  • Responsible for procurement of Vehicles and Equipment; manage bid process per District purchase policy; define vehicle and equipment specifications to meet needs.
  • Recommends reassignment and Auction of Surplus Vehicles and Equipment; coordinates shipment and maintains sales records; submits reports per District policy.
  • Recycling of Materials - Coordinates the metal recycling program, including but not limited to disposal and recycling of used petroleum products.
  • Responsible for the fleet parking yard activities, including establishing procedures to maintain organized equipment storage and safe traffic flow.

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Construction & Facilities Maintenance Manager

Directly supervises full-time fleet employees.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

  • Serves on various employee committees and planning teams as assigned.
  • Stays current with industry trends and legislation affecting the operation of the District’s fleet.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from college, vocational, or trade school with specialized training in automotive mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field. 
  • Five (5) years of related experience, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of automotive mechanics; knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, generators, and welding; price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.   • Effectively implement preventative maintenance programs and procedures, familiar with the District’s procurement procedures.
  • Mentor and train the fleet staff and oversee quality control of vehicles and equipment maintenance.
  • Instruct staff on various steel and aluminum welding techniques. 
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, vendors, and the public.
  • Moderately skilled using windows PC, emphasis on Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, and Word).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must possess a valid Colorado State driver’s license.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Computerized testing equipment, electronic vehicle diagnostics equipment and tablet, power, hand, and air tools.
  • Equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; including jacks, hydraulic lifts, welding equipment, and pneumatic tools required for minor and major repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles.
  • General office equipment; scanner/copier/printer, personal computer, various web-based software’s, calculator, desk phone, cell phone, and mobile or portable radio.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift weights up to 80 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. 

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. 

The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy. 

WORK SCHEDULE

Generally, works between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events and programs, meetings, and/or staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours. 

This position is on-call as part of the snow removal program, and required to report as needed to support equipment needs for snow removal.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
