Highland Industries is Hiring a Finishing Range Operator Near Cheraw, SC

Highland Industries has an immediate need for a "Finishing Frame Operator" to work with our team in the Finishing Department, in ensuring that our customers receive High Quality finished rolls of fabric. The position is located within our Manufacturing facility, at the Cheraw SC, Industrial Fabrics Plant.

It is a second shift position with work hours from 4:00pm to 12:00am.
At this time, the department is working 40 hours per week average with the possibility of weekend work. We are customer order driven facility and hours/number of days can change.

Summary:

In this position, the Finishing Frame Operator works with a Tenter Frame (large oven) that heats and stretches fabric in width, removes wrinkles, and dries cloth after processes, such as water resistant finishing's are applied; relocates the folded cloth to the feed-end of the machine or mounts a roll of cloth at feed end, using hoist. The operator sews the cloth end to leader that is pulled into the machine, using a sewing machine. Turns wheel to adjust clips or pins to stretch cloth to specified width. Moves lever to control speed of cloth through drying cabinet, to swing-folding attachment. Measures width of cloth emerging from machine, using yardstick. Records yardage clock readings. May replace full trucks with empty ones and ravel seams to separate truck loads of cloth. May tend Tenter frame equipped with weft-straightening attachment. The Operator is responsible to maintain proper unit conditions and to patrol the unit, to ensure proper mechanical and quality operation of the Finishing equipment. Training is provided if no experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Must work safely, follow all plant safety and work rules, attend required safety training and report any/all accidents and incidents immediately.
  • Ensure that work orders are generated and that they are closed out at end of a production run.
  • Ensure that all controls are set properly.
  • OK the start of the unit.
  • Keep track of material as it is processed, checking to ensure quality while running.
  • Send swatches to the Lab for testing.
  • Adjust the unit to meet fabric standards.
  • Responsible for the general housekeeping, on and around the unit.
  • Responsible for wrapping the roll and sending to it to the packing station, along with the proper piece ticket, after doffing.
  • Report any quality concerns, deviations from process sheets or mechanical problems to the Department Manager or Supervisor.
  • Empty waste and keep accurate records.
  • Anything else requested by the department Lead/Supervisor/Department Mgr.

Essential Must Have's:

  • Knowledgeable and demonstrate competency of industrial computer system software such as BPCS, work order systems or similar manufacturing software.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder, bend under and move around the frame as needed.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and or move items weighing over 60 lbs.
  • Must have eye-sight able to work with thread and sewing machines.
  • Preference given to Finishing Range Operator Experience.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to handle, or feel various yarns, woven and non-woven goods.

Extended work hours and weekends are sometimes required to support manufacturing, new program development, and special projects.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Prefer one year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous Textiles is a plus.

Computer Skills · To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to demonstrate that they have the knowledge and effenciently use the Manufacturing software necessary to correctly process the paperwork for the material ran.

Language Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence is essential. ·
  • Fluent English is required to speak effectively before groups, customers, or employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills · The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume is recommended.
  • Understanding the basic concepts of algebra and geometry is preferred.

Reasoning Ability: Must demonstrate common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form is essential.

  • Demonstrate the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous use of hands, wrists, and arm motions with manual coordination of walking, bending, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting. Basic use of hand tools.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Some areas of the factory do require the use of hearing protection as you travel through them.
  • Typical manufacturing/warehouse environment. Must be able to withstand heat in excess of ninety-five degrees, dampness, noise, and chemicals.
