Salary Range: $19.00

Description

SUMMARY
This position will work on basic skills with students in the Electrical Pathway, HVAC Pathway and Welding Pathway. Instructors help with basic skills within the programs, a successful candidate does not need content experience or training. 20 hours per week plus various trainings (approximately 20 hours per week). This position is funded through State grant monies and is subject to the availability of funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Serve as an instructor by performing the following activities:

a. Assist students in the enrollment process.

b. Assess students to determine entry level and on-going progress.

c. Develop a study plan for each student based on pre-test scores, course objectives and student goals.

d. Hold classes for students based on a predetermined schedule in accordance with the HCC calendar and policies.

e. Provide quality instruction so as to provide the best opportunity for students to learn.

f. Work with career and technical education (CTE) teacher(s) as assigned to provide co-instructed pathway courses and contextualized instruction for the Accelerating Opportunities Kansas (AO-K) pathway programs as assigned. Co-instructional activities will include: planning with CTE instructor, developing contextualized syllabi, entering grades in gradebook, attending on-going professional development, and developing contextualized lessons at all levels.

g. Provide academic support for other pre-college or college classes.

h. Provide transition courses for adult learners.

2. Evaluate the performance of the students throughout the course by means of further testing and make modification when necessary.

3. Consult with the HCC Adult Education Program Director for questions related to the program.

4. Recruitment and Retention Activities:

a. Provide information about programs within the community and serve as a local contact person.

b. Provide ongoing goal setting meetings with students, communicate with the college staff for transition, share information about available support services, and make referrals.

c. Contact students who are not attending regularly and encourage their continued participation and attendance, document policy violations, and create opportunities for students to access information about college policies.

5. Maintenance Activities:

a. Keep detailed and accurate records and submit necessary information to the HCC Adult Education Program Director. Follow up and make revisions to records as requested.

b. Keep records of materials and information received from the Director and share with tutors and students.

c. Assist students with GED enrollment, college enrollment or other transition services.

d. Perform other instructor-related duties as required.

6. Program Involvement and Development Activities

a. Be a member of the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA).

b. Attend Adult Education Staff Development on the State and local level.

c. Help develop and promote literacy at the local level.

Qualifications


Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field required. Experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing required. Previous experience in adult education desired.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the various subject areas of the program. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, tutors, groups, and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and to communicate these concepts to students.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have the ability to instruct and work with individuals with a wide range of learning styles. Must have good interpersonal skills to encourage students to persist until they meet their goals.
