The Juvenile Residential Specialist supports the daily care and treatment of juvenile adolescent males (ages 11-17) through assessment, goal setting, lesson planning, and planned and unplanned interventions. Coordinates and leads activities to support the treatment plans of individual youth.
This is a part-time position working 16-32 hours weekly. The position comes with paid time off and paid holidays but no medical insurance benefits.
You will be required to train on all shifts as a part of your initial training.
**Day shifts (7a-3p) Evening shifts (3p-11p) and Overnight (11p-7a) There is a $ 1.00 per hour shift differential when you work the evening shift.
Knowledge or Experience:
· High school Diploma and 2 years working with youth.
· Bachelor’s or Associate degree with 6 mos. working with youth.
Essential Functions
· Teaches and nurtures youth through providing direct interaction.
· Develops positive relationships with youth.
· Helps youth to develop & meet realistic short and long term goals.
· Demonstrates an ability to relate to youth and utilizes appropriate counseling strategies.
· Interacts with youth to role model appropriate behaviors, dress, demeanor, language and disciplined work ethic.
· Provides for the care and welfare of youth to ensure basic needs, state and agency standards, health, food, shelter, clothing and safety regulations are met.
· Works to apply the agency's various treatment and campus operations policies, its philosophy of discipline, its information systems and programs into a generalized approach to deal with the unique circumstances of each youth.
· Works to establish a relationship with youth’s family, or guardian, maintains personal contact and communication on an on-going basis to improve youth/family/guardian relationship.
· Participates in team meetings to get a clear view of team objectives. Supports and follows through on team goals, objectives and decisions.
· Understands how to change and improve youth behavior through effective use of self, team members and creative use of programs and activities.
· Develops professional skills through active participation in training and continuing education.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
· Must be a person of good moral character who possesses the health, emotional stability, maturity and strength to carry out assigned duties.
· Displays a positive attitude with youth and co-workers.
· Shows clear commitment and caring for youth placed in our program.
· Models high level of professional standards in their own work.
· Maintains a minimum of 25 hours of training annually.
· Works harmoniously and cooperatively with others to communicate all relevant information for effective decision-making.
· Is consistently on time and in attendance for all shifts.
· Ability to show sensitivity to the service populations’ cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Travel Requirements
· Travel may include transporting youth to appointments, home visits, and/or other off campus activities.
