**JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:**
The Center for Private Forests at Penn State in the College of Agricultural Sciences' Department of Ecosystem Science and Management seeks to hire a Forest Stewardship Program Associate to assist with education and outreach to private woodland owners in Pennsylvania. The Program Associate will promote responsible resource use and management, and support and enhance existing partnerships with organizations working on similar issues. The primary focus on the position is to foster sound forest management and tending on private lands with a clear need to convey a long-term forest stewardship message to ensure forest sustainability. The successful candidate will work within the Center to create educational resources, coordinate and host educational events, give presentations and webinars, participate in applied research, and serve as a resource to landowners and private forestland stakeholders in multiple capacities, including serving on advisory committees and as a liaison to funders and partner organizations.
To be effective, the Program Associate will seek to cultivate recognition and trust among stakeholders. The holder of this position must be flexible and responsive. This position requires a master's degree in natural or social sciences plus two years of work-related experience and a solid foundation in forestry, natural resources, wildlife, or related fields. Excellent communication, teaching or facilitation, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills required, along with the ability to work as a team member; experience with social media, web design, and program evaluation is desirable. Reports to the director of the Center for Private Forests at Penn State. Must have reliable transportation; mileage will be reimbursed. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one-year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to the clearances.
