REPORTS TO: Title V Director

The Student Success Coordinator participates in the continued integration of Student Services related to academic advising, holistic student development, and retention. The position implements interventions to support student success as outlined on the Title V: Abriendo Caminos proposal to increase holistic support. The role ensures that students receive appropriate advising and assists students in establishing productive relationships with faculty, staff, and other students. The Student Success Coordinator develops programs and workshops to assist students in making critical transitions, developing academic plans, and connecting with resources. This position will be providing direction and strategy to the Student Success Specialist on executing the action plans designed by Coordinator.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads, develops, and implements College-wide academic success and intervention strategies to support academic success and engagement for all undergraduate students.
  • Develops a high-touch, holistic retention outreach framework to support a cohort of students, with a focus on supporting underrepresented or underserved populations.
  • Creates and implements retention programs and leads outreach activities that support student success.
  • Utilizes technology, such as alerts, probationary statuses, SAP, low-mid-term grades and other markers to identify student retention concerns.
  • Coordinates and participates in College-level events and programs, including Open House, Group Advisement, Registration events, Orientation, and other advisement-focused programs to support the success of undergraduate students.
  • Oversees the development of students who fail to meet Standards of Progress/Academic Status.
  • Monitors the overall student population's advancement toward degree completion and graduation rates in order to develop a plan for improving student retention and graduation rates.
  • Serves as a liaison between academic divisions to build opportunities for the division and faculty collaboration for retention and persistence partnerships.
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership and interpersonal skills in order to develop cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and students on campus.
  • Contributes to student orientation sessions and open houses, and the community at large, through participation in committees, task forces, and other College and community events.
  • Analyzes student data, assess outcomes, and uses data-driven insights to make improvements to retention programs and student success initiatives.
  • Oversees the processes for documenting, tracking, and monitoring student academic progress, enrollment, participation, and outcomes.
  • Develops post-admission student success initiatives and retention services tailored to populations at risk, including high-impact practices like peer-mentoring or summer bridge programing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two (2) years of experience providing academic support to students enrolled in college level courses
  • Experience in higher education with diverse and at-risk populations, including first-generation college students
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, and technical skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse and changing student body and with professional staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree
  • Three years of experience providing academic support to students enrolled in college level courses
  • Two years of experience in a college setting providing direct service to students and knowledge of the entire student lifecycle experience in academic advising and case management
  • Experience with technology such as Colleague, Canvas, EAB Navigate and online survey software.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Duration: 10/12/2024 to 10/12/2028

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends.
RETIREMENT: Pension Eligible

Any Middlesex College employee hired after September 1, 2011 will have to meet the New Jersey residency law requirement.

This is a specially funded position, dependent for its existence upon federal, State, or other non-College operating funds, and is not funded pursuant to the regular College budget. Continued employment is always contingent upon satisfactory performance and College needs. Grant funded positions are also contingent upon continued funding. This appointment is for the specified period only. Employment beyond the expiration date of the grant is subject to appropriate provisions of existing collectively bargained agreements in effect at the time for employees covered by those agreements.
