Wiley University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Student Success Coach. A Student Success Coach advises students concerning their academic plans and progress, focuses on retention and persistence, and other academic activities and career goals, to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Strategic Retention and Student Success. This is a professional advising position supporting a meta-major learning community, an academic department, or division. This position requires considerable contact with students through individual interviews, group meetings, and workshops. This contact requires demonstrated human relations and communication skills, and is distinguished by this requirement from advising support positions that are primarily administrative in nature. Student Success Coaches are expected to possess extensive knowledge about academic programs within their assigned advising group, policies, procedures, and student support services within the scope of their responsibilities. They must be able to interpret student needs and provide individualized service, as well as interacting with students who may be confused or demanding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination of the Student Support Center to achieve improved student outcomes and student retention
  • Perform analysis of data presented from various assessment methods. Gather retention data and be able to report on trending issues that affect retention
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop interventions to improve student success, as needed
  • Analyze reports to identify academic issues affecting student progression
  • Assist to develop, implement, and evaluate pro-active plans to address concerns
  • Oversee, monitor and coordinate remediation at the course level, identifying student strengths and areas of improvement
  • Assist students with identification of long-term goals and career plans. Work to position students to meet requirements for graduation within appropriate periods of time while preparing them to meet future goals.
  • Coordinate the application of student remediation resources with faculty and faculty advisors in- order to maximize communication and effective use of assessment data
  • Facilitate workshops and programming to assist students with resources needed to progress through to completion.
  • Work with Retention Interventionist to navigate Early Alert System and identify at-risk students
  • Assist students through coordinating tutorial schedules to meet student success outcomes in the classrooms.
  • Meet regularly with at-risk students to provide information and support.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chairpersons, Deans, faculty and students to coordinate, schedule and encourage the use of the resources available for student success.
  • Advise special populations of students within scope of responsibility, such as new or transfer students, undeclared majors, minority groups, etc., assisting in exploration of academic programs, and focusing on academic direction, procedures, policies, and available resources.
  • Maintain documentation of student needs and progress.
  • Monitor completion rate data in order to identify student withdrawal trends.
  • Report to Faculty areas that require improvement
  • Recommend strategies to improve student success at the student and cohort-level
  • Utilize Jenzabar/JICS to support delivery of advising services.
  • Serve on various committees as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with course work in Social Science, Psychology, Higher Education, Counseling, or related area in Student Development
  • Two Years of Work Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree
  • Three years of experience
