Job Description:
The responsibilities of the role relate to the College of Engineering and Computer Science's strategic vision for educational excellence and student success by continuing to provide a student support system consisting of an integrated network of faculty and staff who provide holistic support for all students.
The Student Success Advisor guides students on personal and academic development matters which impact academic performance. The Student Success Advisor provides support for the persistence, retention, and educational success of ECS undergraduate students through a comprehensive knowledge of the academic and support programs of the University and a thorough understanding of student development theories in practice. This professional staff member works in parallel with students faculty advisor and career advisor, supporting students in planning and preparing for their engineering/computer science degree programs and careers.
As a member of the College of Engineering & Computer Science advising team, the candidate must embrace our university's core value of inclusivity, ensuring all students and constituents of the university are served in a caring, respectful, transparent, and authentic manner.
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Higher Education or Counseling preferred; Bachelors degree considered with 3-5 years experience in academic advising, student mentoring, or working with students in higher education.
  • Experience with the unique needs of engineering and computer science students and a global population helpful.
Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills required.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple demands and priorities.
  • High capacity to meet deadlines, well-developed time management and organizational skills, and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Intermediate level technology skills in Excel, database management, and online platforms preferred.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekends as program requires.
Responsibilities:
  • Advises ECS students on personal and academic development in one-on-one sessions for an assigned cohort of undergraduate students.
  • Work collaboratively with ECS career advisors and faculty advisors on their advising team to maintain regular communications with advisees, maintain up-to-date and accurate student records utilizing Universitys prescribed software.
  • Provides mentoring, support, and intervention to ECS students utilizing individual judgement and discretion dealing with confidential matters.
  • Identify in person and/or through faculty interaction and/or through Orange SUccess, at-risk students and provide support, guidance, and referral to appropriate College/University resources.
  • Identify, track, and report metrics on all student support initiatives and their outcomes such as student appointments, Orange Success flags, CLASS utilization, etc.
  • Evaluate progress and reassess programming and delivery for continuous improvement of student success, give suggestions for innovation and ongoing improvement.
  • In conjunction with best practices, design, develop, update, and deliver a variety of workshops for undergraduate students on topics such as: goal setting, time management, study skills, etc.) to support student success and the student experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
