Undergraduate Studies provides academic support services and partners with the academic colleges of all three campuses in the development, review, and enhancement of undergraduate programs. The UGS team with faculty and campus colleagues to ensure academic policies are consistent and aligned with processes and practices. Undergraduate Studies works with the USF Faculty Senate standing councils: General Education Council and the Undergraduate Council. Undergraduate Studies offers the following academic programs: Bachelor of General Studies and the Bachelor of Science in Applied Sciences as well as academic majors in Exploratory Curriculum Pathways, Leadership Studies, and Military Science.
POSITION SUMMARY:The Assistant Dean for Academic Outreach and Innovation reports directly to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and serves on the Undergraduate Studies Cabinet. The Assistant Dean collaborates with students, faculty, staff and the university community to positively impact undergraduate student persistence, degree progression and degree completion. The person will be responsible for strategic planning, budget oversight and institutional leadership for innovation initiatives.
The Assistant Dean will directly supervise the Office of Academic Advocacy and the Office of High Impact Practices Undergraduate Research. The person will co-lead the Council on Academic Advising collaborating across academic colleges and campuses to provide cohesive undergraduate academic
advising services. The Assistant Dean will partner with academic colleges, Student Success and the university community to identify, develop, and implement policies, programs, and practices that contribute to continued improvements in all areas of undergraduate student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervise the Office of Academic Advocacy (OAA). The OAA unit functions as case managers for undergraduate student success through predictive analytics and intrusive outreach. The team troubleshoots undergraduate student problems by identifying risk factors causing student barriers, and providing coordinated support.
- Supervise the Office of High Impact Practices Undergraduate Resarch (HIPUR). The HIPUR unit connects students with high impact practices with a focus on increasing research and intercultural competencies. The team partners with academic colleges and faculty to increase HIPs courses and opportunities.
- Co-lead the Council on Academic Advising (CAA), providing leadership and coordination for undergraduate advising, analytics, and tracking across the university. Provide a cohesive onboarding and training curriculum for academic advisors incorporating technology and assessment.
- Work with the University Registrar Office, academic colleges, and academic advisors to enhance efforts to ensure academic policies, practices and processes are aligned and students are fully informed. Review effectiveness of those efforts in regard to student persistence, progression, and degree completion.
- Stay abreast and engage in continuing education of digital transformation, digital learning initiatives, data literacy and innovative technologies for academic student support services.
- Utilizing change management principles, establish and provide strategic direction for Undergraduate Studies in collaboration with campus partners for innovation initiatives. Provide professional development workshops and/or trainings on these topics and other current trends for Undergraduate Studies and the campus community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:This position requires a Doctoral degree from an accredited institution, extensive experience with academic advising, 3 or more years working at a university comparable to USF, and strong interpersonal skills.
