High School Education Office is Hiring an ADMISSIONS OUTREACH SPECIALIST (#PS1466) Near Ashburn, VA

Position Overview

The Admissions Outreach Specialist is responsible for working directly with the Admissions Coordinator to fully implement the outreach, recruitment, and admissions process for the Academies of Loudoun.

The Office of Admissions at the Academies of Loudoun seeks to recruit and select students with an interest in STEM from diverse backgrounds, including race/ethnicity, gender, disability, English Learner and socioeconomic status, and students from all geographic areas of Loudoun County who demonstrate a desire to be challenged by advanced academic coursework and collaborative research.

 The Academies of Loudoun is comprised of three academies:

  • Academy of Engineering & Technology (AET)
  • Academy of Science (AOS)
  • Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA)

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

  • Provides understanding and support in the Academies of Loudoun programs, practices, policies, and procedures to prospective students, parents, staff, and community. 
  • Assists with creating programs for underrepresented populations that generate interest in STEM.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator with the admissions process from point of inquiry through enrollment.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator with the planning of all K-12 recruitment and outreach efforts: advertising, open houses, school tours, K-12 STEM activities, and admissions information sessions, etc.
  • Coordinates and develops a diverse network of community connections.
  • Coordinates and participates in special day and/or STEM evening events involving prospective students, families, and community connections.
  • Develops strategies and practices to recruit underrepresented populations.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of admissions recruiting efforts and related equity work
  • Demonstrates strong oral communication, writing, and presentation skills, which demonstrate the ability to assimilate, analyze, and present information clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices
  • Demonstrates ability to build and grow outreach sources by researching, contacting, and collaborating with community resources. 
  • Possesses working knowledge of digital media platforms i.e. social media, artificial intelligence, web design, and data analysis.

Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Teaching License preferred; candidates who possess any combination of education and experience equivalent may be considered
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of the mission, organization, and function of an educational environment
  • Must possess ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations of students, parents, school administrators and community organizations, both orally and in writing
  • Must possess an understanding of how highly motivated students perform in a technically-oriented environment; and must possess organizational and computer skills.
  • Experience supporting STEM education in a K-12 school environment or similar setting
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with individuals from diverse linguistic, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Must be a self-starter and possess leadership qualities and personal characteristic necessary to work effectively with young children, adolescents, parents, business/industry, and community groups
  • Must have the ability to keep and maintain accurate and confidential records and meet strict deadlines
  • Must possess an overall knowledge of the community and have the ability to engage the greater STEM community in LCPS initiatives
  • Bilingual skills preferred

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
