Substance Use Clinician

Program/Location: Harmony House (New Bedford)
Education/Licensure:
Clinician 2 - Bachelor's degree and 2 years of supervised counseling experience in substance use treatment
Clinician 3 - High School Diploma/GED and 2 year of supervised counseling experience in substance use treatment
Pay Range:
Clinician 2 - $23 - $28 (education & experience dependent)
Clinician 3 - $19 - $23 (education and experience dependent)
Status / Shift: Full Time / 1-930pm

About Us

SEMCOA's (Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy) mission is to advocate for and provide support to individuals, families, and communities in the areas of substance use, mental illness, domestic violence, homelessness, and parenting. SEMCOA operates four emergency assistance family shelters that provide supportive services to families and assist them with securing permanent housing. SEMCOA also provides residential recovery home treatment to individuals with substance use disorders, as well as transitional and permanent housing stability and support programs. Our portfolio also includes two graduate sober houses, the Family Preservation Program, as well as Greater Brockton and Greater Attleboro Taunton Healthy Families programs.

Clinician Requirements:

  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks;
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas in logical and
  • clear fashion;
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs including the ability to learn, use and
  • train HPAO Electronic Health Record (EHR);
  • Must have the ability to work with others in cooperative and collaborative manner;
  • An understanding of the relationship between substance use and mental health issues and/or self-
  • help programs;
  • Understand and maintain therapeutic boundaries;
  • Reinforce rules in a respectful manner;
  • Comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder and
  • HIPAA Regulations;
  • TB/Flu and Covid19 Assessment;
  • Certification in the HPAO approved de-escalation program;
  • CPR Certification;
  • Successful completion of all trainings upon hire and annually as required.

Substance Use Clinician Duties & Responsibilities

Clinician 2

  • Maintains and submits any current Licensure or Certificate necessary for the performance of the position;
  • Crisis intervention;
  • Maintain assigned caseload;
  • Providing direct care to residents – including assessments, individual counseling, discharge and aftercare planning, treatment plans and updates, weekly progress notes, daily groups facilitation, group note completion, and completion of bio-psychosocial assessments;
  • Making referrals when appropriate;
  • Responsible for each assigned residents’ medical records. All records are to be professional, complete and thorough with entries made in a timely manner;
  • Responsible for linking resident’s with aftercare services prior to discharge and aiding the resident and his/her family access services when appropriate;
  • Communicating/involving family in treatment at resident’s request;
  • Request extensions after 90 days of treatment if needed;
  • Maintain professionalism when connecting with individuals collaterals;
  • Attend and participate in all unit, facility meetings, case conferences, Treatment Team meetings, and mandatory trainings, as directed by the Clinical Supervisor /Director;
  • Responsible for continued education in the field of substance use and related courses;
  • All other duties as assigned by Program Director / Clinical Supervisor.

Clinician 3

  • Compliance with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy and HIPAA Regulations;
  • Participate in Treatment Team Meetings;
  • Provide direct care to patients. This care will include, but not limited to, individual counseling, group facilitation, lectures, orientation for new patients, discharge and aftercare planning and case management of patients assigned;
  • Linking patients with aftercare services prior to discharge and aiding the patient and his/her family access outpatient care when appropriate;
  • Maintenance of each assigned patient’s care record. All records are to be professional, complete and thorough with legible entries made in a timely manner;
  • Attendance at all unit and facility meetings and case conferences as determined by the Clinical Director;
  • Attendance at all mandatory trainings and meetings;
  • Seeking out and participating in continued education in the field of substance abuse disorders and related courses;
  • Contacting the insurance company for authorization, as needed;
  • Utilizing walkie-talkie as campus responder;
  • Utilizing standard precautions at all times;
  • Demonstrating behaviors that recognize the rights of the patients as defined by the patient rights documents;

Substance Use Clinician Qualifications

Clinician 2 - Bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology, education-counseling, medicine, psychology, psychiatric nursing, rehabilitative counseling, or social work, and a minimum of two years of supervised substance use disorder counseling experience

Clinician 3 - Minimum of a High School degree or equivalent GED and a minimum of (1) year supervised counseling experience in substance abuse treatment or closely related field.
