PLC - Controls Technician

Provide high level electrical diagnostics on plant systems and PLC controlled production line equipment. A strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems used in a manufacturing environment. Participate in failure analysis to supply preventive solutions.
Work with the production team to determine the best course of action when encountering downtime issues. Testing and upgrading production equipment. Installation and testing of new food manufacturing, packaging, and processing equipment. Interface with machine tools and special equipment or test modules, troubleshoot existing equipment and change or modify machines to improve or update.
Preventative maintenance and repair when required in addition to planned maintenance duties.
Participate in a continuous improvement culture while following safe workplace practices. Develop positive and respectful interactions with managers, supervisors, maintenance technicians, and machine operators.
Perform other duties as required including controls troubleshooting, electrical maintenance duties, and special projects. This position works closely with various departments to ensure the electrical and mechanical infrastructure of the plant is maintained and optimized properly to ensure efficient processing and maximum uptime.

  • PLC maintenance and Troubleshooting of the variety of systems within our facility.
  • Troubleshoot programs to identify problems and resolve.
  • Create and read logic flow diagrams for program design and programming.
  • Provide technical support in developing and improving processes.
  • Configure, install and repair automation/control devices.
  • Observe the functioning of installed equipment to detect problems, and the need for repair and/or replacement of electrical and mechanical components.
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical systems across the organization
  • Troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic/production/quality issues
  • Reading and understanding mechanical plans and wiring diagrams
  • Work according to project timelines and required processes.
  • Assist activities of outside contractors
  • Self-motivated with the ability to Work independently.
  • Review controls documentation and installation plans
  • Complete special projects as directed.
  • Travel to other facilities when needed.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to increase knowledge of relevant systems.
  • Develop and train upcoming talent on PLC maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to travel to other facilities in the southeastern United States. Projects, training, development and PLC maintenance troubleshooting.
  • Follow safety and work procedures.

Profess. Background / Education

  • Completed degree or certificate program in a relevant field or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and work experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with industrial electrical systems
  • PLC Education/Experience servicing programmable logic systems. (Allen Bradley/Siemens etc.)

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Hands-on work attitude, precise and detail-oriented workstyle; highly organized.
  • Strong communication skills. Able to interact at any level of the organization effectively.
  • Able to work with a team to accomplish company goals.
  • Must be highly computer literate for the maintaining of machine control systems software and upgrades.
  • Proficiency with automation hardware and software
  • Knowledge of motion control systems
  • Understanding of electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics

Physical Requirements include by are not limited to: Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, transport up to 70 pounds. Standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting. Able to work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment, temperatures can reach up to 110 degrees.

Employer conducts drug screen, physical and background screening.

Must have valid driver's license.
