Hiawatha Collegiate High School (HCHS) seeks a dedicated School Culture Liaison to join our team for the 2022-23 school year.

Job Description*
The School Culture Liaison (SCL) is responsible for contributing to the social-emotional well-being and academic achievement of all HCHS scholars, as well as the overall school culture of HCHS. At HCHS, we strive to be a place in which all students are safe, seen, and loved; wherein students take pride in being a “Wolf,” and wherein joy in community is felt. They will work under the guidance of the Deans of Students to support students and teachers The SCL plays a key role in supporting a culture in which all HCHS scholars can grow and thrive.

Responsibilities*

General Responsibilities_*

  • Foster a school climate that works toward Hiawatha Academies’ mission and equity vision
  • Build relationships with and among HCHS scholars, families, and staff
  • Support a joyful and engaging school culture where all students are honored and respected for who they are and can be their best
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for scholars

Student Culture

  • Support positive student behavior and social-emotional learning in class and at HCHS as a whole
  • With the Deans of Students, manage all systems and communication around all disciplinary consequences, including detentions, suspensions, expulsions, and family contacts
  • With the Deans of Students, conduct proactive and reactive disciplinary meetings with students and families
  • With support from Deans of Students, host culture building-events such as assemblies
  • Utilize school culture and behavior data to inform individual interventions and to determine school-wide trends to address

Systems Management

  • Oversee breakfast, lunch, and/or dismissal daily
  • Support the Deans of Students in managing all student support structures
  • Maintain and log proactive and reactive family communication
  • Maintain and log proactive and reactive staff and teacher communication

Perform other duties as required and assigned

The School Culture Liaison must demonstrate knowledge of and support Hiawatha Academies’ mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior

Hiawatha Employment Logistics*
Hours are subject to change.

  • Hiawatha Collegiate High School students’ school day is from 9am-4pm, Monday-Thursday and 9am-1:20pm on Friday. Staff hours are set to support students.
  • Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:40pm-4:00pm.
  • All Hiawatha staff are expected to attend and participate in relevant evening family events to be held at the school.

Skills & Qualifications
Required:

  • Passion for supporting high school students to exercise responsibility and self-discipline
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with students, families, and colleagues
  • Exercise excellent judgment in decision-making
  • Experience utilizing de-escalation and mediation techniques
  • Possess a growth mindset
  • Awareness of self and the ability to understand, appreciate, and interact within different cultural contexts

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Bilingual or multilingual (English required. Spanish or Somali preferred.)

Compensation*
The salary range for this position is $42,000 - $45,229. Additional experience may be credited at the discretion of the Senior Human Resources Officer. Hiawatha offers a collaborative and committed team of colleagues, and a comprehensive benefits plan including medical, dental, life, and retirement.
