Overview
Job Summary
The Reimbursement Accountant is responsible for the accumulation and analysis of data used for the preparation of work-papers that support the HH System hospitals’ third party cost reports, to include inputting and importing data into each of the respective third party programs.
Supports in clarifying any ensuing audit questions concerning submitted cost report data and conducts analysis of potential third party reimbursement impacts.
Works independently in the preparation of the annual CMS S-10 form, Medicaid UCC annual calculations, and Wage Index required data and documents.
Responsible for assigned hospital(s) Medicare Retro monthly calculations and monthly contractual and bad debt allowance estimate.
Responsible for reconciliations to record general ledger journal entries, to include analyzing general ledger accounts and responding to internal management requests.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Assist in the preparation of Third Party Cost Reports per current rules and regulations. Cost report must be completed two weeks prior to due date for review by management.
Assists auditors in resolving audit questions and prepare all work papers with the necessary data to support the issue being reviewed by the Financial & Third Party auditors.
Analyzes general ledger accounts, maintaining documentation and making any necessary journal entries.
Ensures that all general accounts related to reimbursement are analyzed monthly and adjusted appropriately.
Assist with the Medicaid Enhancement and DSH Payment Data.
Assist with calculation of system’s contractual adjustment and uncollectible accounts.
Respond to internal management requests for information including data for monthly entries.
Stays abreast of current third party reimbursement regulations and informs management of potential effects to the hospital. .
Stays abreast of current UCC & Wage Index schedules and regulations
Assists Senior Reimbursement Accountant with duties.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education Required
High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance – or closely related field – from an accredited college or university required. **can be actively working toward BSBA (4-year) degree if associate’s degree has been awarded.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare reimbursement or a related field.
Additional Skills/Abilities
Must be able to communicate effectively and work in a fast paced environment requiring the ability to set priorities, coordinate and organize multiple tasks and maintain control of work flow.
Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, including Microsoft Office Applications.
Must be able to reason and solve problems independently.
