Job Description: Project Manager - Engineering Jobs

The Project Manager is responsible for seeing the job through to completion, from the kickoff meeting to final shipment and billing. They are to manage and coordinate all aspects of the project including up to date schedules, budgets, and customer contact.

Typical responsibilities include representing the customer’s and HEC’s interest and making sure all specifications and quality standards are being met. Maintain, file and record all correspondence and the distribution of these materials. These tasks are to be accomplished following the guidelines and procedures listed below:

  • The sales engineer receives an order, reviews all documentation, fills out a job requisition and forwards to accounting to be put in the system and have a number assigned. At the same time the sales engineer will develop a complete job package and forward to the project manager. After reviewing the package, the PM will schedule a kick-off meeting with the appropriate team members and forward a copy of the package to everyone before the meeting.
  • The kick-off meeting initiates the transfer of the job to the PM. During the meeting decisions will be made to ensure the schedule will be met. If there are conflicts a plan of action will be agreed upon and implemented. The PM will read and review any specification or job requirements in detail making sure they have a total understanding in order to manage the project and communicate with the customer throughout the contract.
  • It is the project manager’s responsibility to organize and monitor the complete project. He she should utilize the workflow incorporated in the manual and summarized below to manage the project.
  • Send a letter of introduction along with an acceptance form of the PO with any changes to the customer. Communicate billing milestones to Controller. Any billing will be given to accounting for processing and forwarding to customer.
  • Receive drawings for approval from engineering manager and have sales engineer review. After review forward to customer along with any other documentation (weld and testing procedures, quality plan etc.).
  • Receive approved for construction drawings from customer. If there are changes forward to sales engineer along with design to review. Drawings to be finalized and fabrication drawings completed. At this point the president of HEC shall decide if the job will be built in house or subcontracted, if subcontracting is the path chosen a copy of the drawings, any specs and a schedule will be sent to purchasing for forwarding to qualified contractors for bid. Purchasing will submit the packages to the president for evaluation and a selection of the contractor. Purchasing will issue a PO and forward a copy to the PM.
  • If the project schedule requires more than thirty days to complete the PM will complete a monthly cost update report supplied by accounting and inform the team of any overruns as soon as possible.
  • The project manager will write requisitions for the purchase of items not pertaining to raw materials and forward to purchasing for procurement. Purchasing is responsible, if fabricated in house, for acquiring all raw materials, gaskets, and hardware, outside contractors (coatings, rolling etc.). Receipt of major material, whether the job is fabricated in house or by a subcontractor, may be a billing milestone.
  • Throughout the project the PM shall keep an up-to-date schedule utilizing purchasing and the shop foreman. Any deviation from the original, as transmitted to the customer, will require notification in order to assure everyone is aware of the changes and its effects.
  • Upon completion, including a release from the inspector, the PM shall notify the customer of its readiness and verify all logistics (requirements, ship to, delivery date and receiving hours). This information shall be forwarded to shipping to set up transporting the equipment to the jobsite.
  • After receiving a copy of the bill of lading the project manager will forward a copy to accounting for final billing
  • Within sixty days after shipment the PM should receive a closing report from accounting. He/she shall confirm that the material and labor cost reflected in the report is accurate and make any revisions required.
  • If, at this time, there has been no customer response as to the quality and overall satisfaction of their experience with HEC you will notify the sales engineer so they may contact the customer.

Qualifications Include:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • This individual must possess a positive and aggressive work ethic.
  • Must possess the educational background and/or experience to meet the needs of this position.
  • Must be versatile and have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to delegate work effectively.
  • This position must also provide timely and accurate information pertaining to projects that the person would be involved with.
  • The individual must be able to multitask and be involved in several projects at any given time.
  • Must be able and willing to invest the time required to meet the workload.
  • Must be extremely organized and goal oriented.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $83,000.00 per year
