Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a Track Inspector in Austin, TX.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • The candidate is responsible for inspecting the track infrastructure in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • The candidate is responsible to inspect construction and maintenance projects upon completion for quality and safety before track is deemed serviceable under the direction of the Project Manager. Dedicated full time to the project, with no outside working responsibilities other than Herzog related duties. Also, responsible for the maintenance quality control documentation including reports, and secure documentation system.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting daily, weekly and monthly inspections and surveillances of construction and maintenance activities in accordance with FRA and CWR and specifications requirements. The candidate must provide examples of similar experiences and accomplishments and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • The candidate is also expected to be willing to work nights and holidays as needed under special circumstances.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent field experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in track maintenance and inspection.
  • Previously GCOR, FRA 213-214 Qualified on class 1 railroad. Familiarity and knowledge of codes and standards applicable to specific construction and maintenance activity per GCOR, MOWOR, CWR, and FRA 213 and 214.

  • Ability to write detailed reports and demonstrated computer skills necessary to access, research, and document results in the electronic medium are expected.
  • Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Extensive skills at minor adjustments/repairs of special trackwork.
  • Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
    • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Regularly lift up to 75 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 36 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 48 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly carry weight up to 16 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
  • Regularly push/pull a force up to 25 pounds for up to eight minutes continuously.
  • Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment or tools with a force up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a step with a height of 28 inches from the floor.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
  • Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
