TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a diligent Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) Training Specialist in San Jose, CA to join our team.

The pay range for this position is $110,000 - $135,000.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Develop, schedule, and present all training and development programs for Maintenance of Equipment employees, including but not limited to new hire training, annual rules training, and training on relevant regulations.
  • Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results; modify programs as needed; develop effective training materials utilizing a variety of media. Work closely with subject matter experts to evaluate and revise training tools and methods.
  • Develop trainer development programs and coach others involved in training efforts, providing effective growth and development opportunities.
  • Represent the safety department in all interactions with other departments and maintain consistent safety messaging with those departments.
  • Assist in internal accident/incident investigations.
  • Participate in efficiency testing, including but not limited to joint testing and testing with FRA/CPUC/regulatory agencies.
  • Implement TASI standards, rules, and processes in response to regulatory requirements (e.g., FRA Safety Advisories) and in response to corrective actions from internal investigations.
  • Participate in internal audits within the mechanical department.
  • Assure quality of service through field audits
  • Maintain strong relationships with all department managers to understand training needs, develop course materials, and receive feedback.
  • Document and report all training and audit results in a timely manner.
  • Follows safety procedures and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Exemplify the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Work effectively as a team member with other members of the management team
  • Work hands-on with employees demonstrating proper application and techniques in performing required tasks in shop environment.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An associate’s degree in education, business, or closely related field (can be substituted with 3 years passenger railroad experience)
  • Qualified maintenance person or have the ability to become a Qualified maintenance person within 6 months of start date.
  • Five years of experience in rail equipment maintenance industry, with at least two years in passenger service
  • Experience in education, training, and/or mentoring peers, preferably in a commuter rail environment.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal/OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of standard railroad rules and operating practices. Knowledge of General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) is preferred.
  • Experience working in an Electrified Railroad
  • Knowledge of American Public Transportation Association standards.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead by example and foster mentoring relationships.
  • Ability to inspire change and motivate others.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse work force and at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
