Hertford County Schools is Hiring a Graduation Coach Near Ahoskie, NC

JOB TITLE: GRADUATION COACH GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Graduation Coach provides a school-based, multi-faceted framework of instructional support and intervention for high school students at risk of dropping out or failing to graduate with their cohort. The position provides specific support and intervention by identifying and monitoring highly at-risk students as early as ninth grade. Typical work hours will be 11:00 am until 7:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. (the site principal will determine this). The first half of the day will be spent interacting with staff/students to support and encourage success and to monitor progress. The second half of the day will be spent operating a lab in which students take online computer courses to help them become eligible for graduation within four years.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops instructional plans for recovering lost credits for at-risk students. Provides ongoing emotional support and personal contact. Provides assessment services to identify the target population. Identifies at-risk students and determines the target population to be served based on students’ needs and probability of effective intervention.

Serve as a liaison for other support services that can assist the student. Establishes and maintains purposeful relationships with students and parents. Assists students in developing appropriate goals. Assists students in developing and implementing strategies for removing barriers to graduation. Monitors targeted students’ progress. Serve as coordinator/instructor of the after-school program.

Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention using online course recovery software and other strategies that can prevent initial failures. Communicate effectively within the educational community for the support of the student. Collect and submit information to the Drop-Out Prevention office as requested.

Performs other related work as required


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

North Carolina teacher certification required with a strong math/science background preferred with at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


Interpersonal Communication:
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.


Language Ability
: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess demonstrated skills in differentiated instruction and the ability to operate a safe and orderly classroom while maintaining the dignity of all students.
  • Must possess an upbeat approach to the job and be viewed as a solution-finder, not a negative thinker.
  • Must possess strong computer skills and have extensive knowledge of online instructional processes.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
