Heritage Interpreting is an interpreting agency based in Columbus, OH, primarily focusing on sign language interpreting. We have several contracts throughout Columbus that are requesting spoken language interpreters. We are looking to bring interpreters onto our roster as independent contractors. We offer two-hour minimums and will provide competitive rates. We require an interview to see if we're a good fit for each other.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services between various language-speaking individuals and English-speaking professionals in various settings, such as hospitals, medical offices, social work agencies, and child protective services.
- Interpret conversations accurately and impartially, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethics.
- Translate written documents, such as medical records and legal documents, from Spanish to English and vice versa.
- Assist with cultural mediation to ensure effective communication and understanding between parties.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of interpreted sessions.
Skills:
- Fluency in both target and English languages, with the ability to interpret accurately and effectively.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures to accurately interpret in medical settings.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
