The Organization

The Historical Society of Frederick County, dba Heritage Frederick, is the oldest historic preservation and heritage tourism organization in Frederick County, Maryland. The first meeting occurred in 1892, and we’ve inhabited the building at 24 East Church Street since 1959. Heritage Frederick amplifies the significance of Frederick County and uses historical artifacts, photographs, and documents to tell the story of the cities and towns, industries, and people that have defined the County’s history since 1748.

The Position

Education and Outreach Coordinator

Responsibilities

Act as the primary brand ambassador for Heritage Frederick among on-site visitors and in the community; lead efforts to develop and oversee programs and events that interpret artifacts, extend exhibits, and attract interest for the organization; use social media and similar tools to communicate with the public about activities, events, and historical facts.

• Oversee the visitor experience, including greeting, admissions, gift sales, and volunteers
• Coordinate programs, including walking tours and lectures, group tours, special events, and school tours; develop appropriate educational programming to advance the mission
• Engage with local partners and peer organizations to share news related to attractions and events, collaborate on projects, cultivate relationships and community support, and enhance the brand of the organization
• Lead team efforts to create content on HF website and social media sites that attract interest in the organization’s activities, collection, and exhibits; cooperate with marketing partners to promote the organization and its community impact
• Cooperate as a member of the organization’s Events Committee, including acting as the lead for intermittent or annual events and activities
• Contribute to team efforts to develop, organize, and install exhibits
• Oversee facility operations, including security, supplies, and maintenance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or extensive, direct experience organizing and coordinating programs and events in lieu of a degree
• Proven experience creating educational programs or experiences for diverse audiences
• Demonstrated ability communicating successfully and building/sustaining relationships
• Substantial experience and comfort with office-use software, Internet, and social media; familiarity with graphic design programs, such as Canva, preferred (or ability to learn)
• A positive attitude; capacity to work alone as well as in a team
• Exceptional time management skills and organizational ability; detail-oriented

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
