Job Summary

The Security Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and services the HCK community. Security staff provides a safe and clean environment for the residents, visitors, and staff of the facilities and organization. They monitor the security systems at the facilities and maintain a log detailing events and incidents of each shift. Security performs daily work assignments as directed and cooperates with other departments within the organization to provide continuous safety and maintain security. They provide a positive first impression for residents, visitors and staff through positive interactions and personal appearance of self and work areas.

Major Responsibilities

The Security Assistant will:

• Function mainly in the capacity of a security officer who patrols premises, remains alert, is visible and attentive to the safety and welfare of the residents, visitors, and staff of the community.
• Patrol all buildings and grounds throughout their shift, inspecting doors, windows, locks, fire extinguishers, etc.
• Responds to emergency situations and calls and initiates appropriate action when encountering an unsafe situation as evidenced by observation, feedback, and documentation.
• Appropriately interviews residents, visitors, and staff to obtain information relative to security and safety reports as the incident occurs, as evidenced by documentation.
• Prepare daily security logs of each shift related to the security of facility including issues of health and welfare of residents, safety/security and incidents/unusual occurrences of buildings and grounds, and call-in work orders.
• Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times.
• Complete minor, routine maintenance work orders during 2nd or 3rd shift if appropriate and notify maintenance person on-call for items related to the safety and security of residents, visitors, and staff of buildings and of organization.
• Notify management and appropriate Public Safety Department personnel of incidents requiring emergency intervention of Police/Fire authorities.
• Maintain excellent customer service skills at all times by following the goals and policies of the organization in providing courteous, prompt, and dependable service.
• Daily rounds throughout campus.
• Provide Artisan reception desk coverage which includes monitoring fire alarm system, safety pendant system for residents, telephone system, and front entry access systems.
• Assists in room set up of activities and room arrangements within the facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Michigan State Driver’s License.
• Must be CPR certified or become CPR certified within 3months of hire.

Essential Physical Functions

• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to tolerate walking distances of 5 miles per day.
• Ability to bend, lift, squat, and climb.
