Henry Street Settlement is Hiring an Assistant Program Director - Urban Family Center (LMSW) Near New York, NY

Job Overview:

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 5:00pm with flexibility to work early and late as needed.
    • Participation in an 24/7 on call schedule required.
  • Pay: $75,000-$78,000
  • Location: Fully onsite in the Lower East Side

Job Summary:

Reporting to the senior program director, the assistant program director (APD) will be a crucial member of Urban Family Centers leadership team. The APD will manage members of the social service team and other personnel to ensure the Urban Family Center meets the highest possible standards of health and safety and provides all needed quality services to residents, while meeting contractual and regulatory requirements. The APD is responsible for encouraging a supportive environment and assisting the social service team in managing high emotion situations. 

Program Overview:

Founded in 1972, the Urban Family Center (UFC) was the country’s first apartment-style temporary shelter with on-site social services for homeless families with children. Funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services and located in a six-story walk-up building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the Center houses eighty-two homeless families in separate apartments, and provides them access to a comprehensive array of social services.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Master’s Degree in Social Work (LMSW) required
  • At least 3 years post-masters experience working in social service settings
  • Minimum of 3 years direct people management experience
  • Excellent problem solving ability with good crisis intervention, communication, strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, decision-making and writing skills
  • Experience serving people who are homeless, mentally ill, older adults, medically needy and/or chemically dependent required
  • Competence in personnel management, strategic planning and program development
  • Budgetary experience is a plus
  • Experience with CARES client information system a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management, programmatic, and administrative responsibilities of a 24 hour facility
  • Manage members of the social service team including case managers, housing specialist, employment coordinators, and social worker
  • Assist with program planning, development , implementation, and evaluation
  • Serve as a liaison with the Department of Homeless Services and other funding sources; ensure compliance and provide data and reporting
  • Attend and facilitate case reviews at clinical meetings to ensure the coordination of proper client care
  • Participate and lead programmatic audits as needed
  • Other related duties as assigned by the senior program director
