HJF is seeking a Scientist II to develop and supervise research projects in an imaging laboratory. The Scientist II investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to image data. This individual is expected to take on a leadership role under the supervision of the principle investigator(s) in overseeing, designing, and developing algorithms for various AI applications that include but are not limited to the processing and analysis of preclinical and clinical medical images such as MRI, PET and CT. The Scientist II develops new technologies and protocols.
This position will be in support of Department of Radiology & Radiological Sciences to support clinical and preclinical image processing and quantification.
Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years. 

Responsibilities:
  • Plans, executes, and oversees image evaluation, processing and quantification. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Monitors scientific literature. Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and prepares patent applications.
  • Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Collaborates with other technical and professional staff. Trains and supervises technical staff.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient with machine learning and deep learning techniques.
  • Experience with medical imaging and medical image analysis.
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others. 
  • Programming experience with Python and Matlab.
  • Have experience working with DICOM and NIFTI image file formats.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office or imaging center laboratory setting. Actual site of work may vary depending upon the project. Periodic telework may be permitted.
Education and Experience
  • Doctoral Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience required.
Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
