Overview
The surgical technologist assists with care of the surgical patient during the intraoperative phase of care. The CST is very knowledgeable and skilled using surgical instrumentation.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care activities directed toward the perioperative patients comfort and personal needs.
- Protects patient sensitivities and right to privacy.
- Maintains patient confidentiality by following all HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Participates in surgical safety time-out procedures and processes.
- Checks all supplies for expiration dates prior to use.
- Participates in completion of daily assignments.
- Acts as a resource person regarding surgical instrumentation and supplies, orientation and staff teaching.
Qualifications
Required:
Certification as a surgical technologist is required within the first year of employment
Preferred:
Graduate of an accredited program of surgical technology preferred
At least one year of surgical tech experience preferred
