Assistant Vice President for Advancement
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Advancement is a skilled and dynamic fundraising professional focused on advancing the philanthropic culture of Hendrix College through strategically coordinated development, engagement, and fundraising initiatives. S/he provides strategic direction, leadership, and daily management annual, major, and planned giving, and advancement services, as well as carries a portfolio of key donors and prospects. In addition, the AVP, in partnership with the Vice President, plays a key role in helping to plan and execute specific and comprehensive campaigns.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Vice President and, as appropriate, the President, providing thought leadership and high-level support in formulating strong action plans for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects for annual, multi-year, endowment, and legacy gifts for the benefit of the College, its programs, or units, including athletics.
  • Lead constructive change through collaborative and inspiring approaches; build a high performing team through clear articulation of expectations, establishment of standards of accountability, and guidance of staff toward desired outcomes.
  • Create and fosters an environment conductive to high performance and a cohesive team for Development and Advancement Services; mentor and manage staff through clear goals and metrics, and annual performance reviews.
  • Ensure an effective pipeline for moves management, including portfolio assignments, based on data and research.
  • Leading by example, actively work a dedicated portfolio, developing and enhancing meaningful and productive relationships with major gift prospects; travel to meet with donors and prospects, as needed, to secure major gifts to actively contribute to team goals.
  • Build a relevant case for support to align giving interests with funding priorities and drive increased development activity.
  • Establish clear processes that enhance moves management through effective prospect management and research.
  • Work closely with the Vice President to develop a formal stewardship program that aligns with best practices, creates a donor-centric approach to showing gratitude, and demonstrates impact.
  • Propose and help manage budgets for fundraising programs; assist in approving and monitoring related expenses.
  • Work with volunteer leadership, including the Development Committee of the Alumni Association Board of Governors and members of the Board of Trustees Committee on Advancement, Trustees, and Governance.
  • Serve as a liaison for campus committees, as directed by the Vice President.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity to achieve individual performance measures and contribute to team goals and metrics.
  • Track and report relationship management activity into the CRM within a timely manner.
  • Adhere to the CASE/AFP Code of Ethics for Fundraisers and know/be familiar with the Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in related field preferred. CFRE a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated track record as a front-line fundraiser and leader, with minimum 10 years of progressive responsibility and minimum five years of leadership and management experience.
  • Campaign experience and knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and gain respect of various constituencies.
SKILLS:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive self-starter, goal oriented.
  • Proven track record of leadership and major gift fundraising success.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and high ethical standards, in accordance with best practice principles.
  • Evening and weekend work, as well as travel required.
  • The nature of this role is highly externally focused; must be able to operate autonomously.
